Iris the Messenger

This is my take on Iris, the goddess of rainbows. In some places rainbows are considered a sign of good luck. They invoke hope and supposedly "send" good fortune to those who see them.

Emerald Rose, Fortune's Thief

With the help of her faithful sidekick, 'Dorable, the fairy called Emerald Rose nicks your notebook, absconds with your resume, "borrows" your keys, and misplaces your bus pass.

However, she's on your side! That missing notebook contained your assignment for class--but while you're frantically re-doing it at school, you realize you'd made a stupid mistake in your original work. If you'd turned in the version in the notebook, you'd have gotten a terrible grade. The stolen resume? Yeah, it would've enabled you to land that job . . . which, you learn later, would only have lasted three months before the company was shut down for committing fraud! Whew, you're well out of that!

And so forth. Getting the picture?

Remember, you should never swear at the fairy who rearranges your world. If it's Emerald Rose, she's your pilot past disasters you cannot possibly foresee.

The Witch of luck can be found only when an individual get lost within a forest. Some call them a myth or a great prank due to the number of reported sightings scattered across the map in a number of different habitats. Some are mundane forests, others magical and one in question was a mushroom forest. This witch not only directs these people out, they peddle luck. For those with bad luck have a chance when the meet the witch to turn it around, but beware those who anger them have whatever luck they have turn bad.

Cedar the little woodland fairy

A little woodland sprite is amidst the flowers this lucky season. She is a helper of a lighter fairy, set out to help the woodland creatures and give luck to the ones who need it the most. She's not the brightest of fairies but she has a heart of gold. Cedar resides in flowers or trees to keep an eye out for anyone in need of help.

Vaylena, Goddess of the Wishing Well

Vaylena is a lesser Goddess who serves under Wruen. She presides over Luck and wishes. Her powers are strongest during the Fortune Festival, so it is quite common to see people praying to her to gain her blessing before partaking in the Fortune Festival or going to the Wishing Well to speak their heart's desire. The two dragons by her side, Leviathan and Kinerac, were actually given to her by Wruen to protect her. Back in the days when the Gods and Goddess were more active, some would try to steal Vaylena in the hopes of increasing the odds of their designs coming to fruition. Ever since Wruen bestowed the two dragons to Vaylena, she has enjoyed relative peace and looks forward to the arrival of the Fortune Festival each year.

When ships are in peril at sea, crews know to look to the sky, and eventually their prayers will be answered in the form of a black bird. Sometimes a sailor will swear they see a glimpse of a beautiful woman on a cliff-face, surrounded by a shimmering aura that glows like sunlight glinting off blue-green water. Sailors don't know if she is a spirit, a goddess, a faerie, or if she only exists in myth.

The truth is, she was human once, long ago. A High Priestess, named Sionainn, who was cast out of her Order when she was suspected of dabbling in black magic. She could speak to ravens and crows, and her gift was feared and misunderstood. An enchantment binds her to a lonely, abandoned castle and the dreary, desolate cliffside it rests upon. The Order used it as a prison for dark entities and corrupted souls. She spent many miserable years trapped there, with only her birds for company. Each day she grew wearier, the oppressive atmosphere threatening to consume her and make her like the other prisoners.

One day she was walking along the parapets. Cold wind stung her cheeks, salt air cracked her lips and rain trickled uncomfortably down the back of her neck. Just as she braced herself to go back inside, something drew her eye to a ship on the horizon. The rain grew heavier and heavier, and fog as thick as soup began to roll in. She could barely see a foot in front of her face, except for the fleeting moments when lightning split the sky. The crack of thunder and the crash of waves on the treacherous rocks below were deafening.

Heart beating fast, feet guided by some ancient power, she ran to the top of the tallest tower. She pressed herself against the window pane, a warning scream building in her throat, though she knew there was no earthly way they could hear her. Then, a bolt of lightning, imbued with divine purpose, struck the tower. In a flash of blinding light, Sionainn and the stained glass fused as one. She spread her new wings, rose above the castle and hovered there. Brilliant light in all colours of the rainbow emanated from them, bright enough to be seen for miles.

Many centuries have passed, the castle crumbling ruins now. Sionainn remains ageless as she fulfils her purpose. Her birds inform her of ships in distress and she always finds a way to help them. Sometimes she uses magic to grant them a favourable wind or an unfailing compass. On stormy or moonless nights, she is a beacon to a safe path to shore. She aids anyone without discrimination - merchants and fishermen, naval and pirate vessels alike.

If you live near the sea, next time you see a crow or a raven, remember to offer your thanks, for without their aid, untold numbers of ships, crew and cargo would be lost forever in the fathomless depths.

Harold, Seeker of Fortune

Since childhood, Harold loved hearing tales of treasure hunting and decided once he was grown he'd try to make his fortune like his heroes. As soon as he was old, he bid his neighbors farewell and set out. For the longest time he never found treasure though he had great adventures and was a hero to many. Then one day he heard of a legendary ghostly stag that guarded an ancient treasure hidden deep in a valley. Even though his back wasn't what it used to be, he headed off into the wilderness once more.

There were mysterious ruins hidden deep in the valley. As he continued to explore he finally found what looked almost like an arena. In the middle was the ghostly stag seemingly bound by mysterious runes engraved in stones. Harold broke one of the stones with a hammer and the spell disintegrated. The stag finally freed changed forms into that of a god.

Harold stared bewildered at the sight. The god of fortune, Silvaren, then told him that he would bestow upon him three gifts. One was a small pouch that held far more gold than it should. The next was a gift of magic to help him with any of his remaining adventures. Harold then asked what the third was. Silvaren laughed and asked him how his back felt. Harold smiled at the god and thanked him. It's said that Harold despite his age went on several more adventures and eventually disappeared. Legend has it that he still lives somewhere there despite centuries having passed.
