You knock hard enough on the door that there's no way anyone behind it wouldn't hear you, but between your knocking and calling out, nothing happens.

"Today and no other day," mutters the girl, reaching up and sliding a bolt across the trapdoor to lock it. From above, you can hear shouting rendered unintelligible by the thick wood, then someone vigorously shakes the trapdoor, followed by pounding as the bolt shakes. "Come on, we don't want to be here when they break through." You can't see much, as the area you now stand in is pitch black, but as your eyes adjust to the darkness, you can just barely make out a long and fortunately dry tunnel leading away, sloping down slightly.

Being a bit concerned about what just happened and thinking that the man might have fallen or something like that, Evan slowly opens the door to peek inside

"Yeah." Eleni chuckels dryly, following the girl. Trying not to trip or anything, that would be really bad. "So....what' sthe deal up ther e anyways?"

You open the door to find a typical back room, with shelves of cans, boxes, and other things you expect are for restocking, but nothing out of the ordinary. The store owner is nowhere in sight. At the other end of the room, a door leading outside to a back alley is open and swinging as if it's just recently been barged through.

Randomly flipping to a section, you come across the chapter simply titled Vanishing.
One of the most prominent and well-known, yet vague stories of the lighthouse is its apparent habit to "vanish", with people often saying things such as that they have been to the same place repeatedly and only saw it some of those times, and that it only appears at certain times of day or on certain days. It's also somewhat believed that if one is in or near the lighthouse when it vanishes, they, too, will vanish, leading to a multitude of tales of disappearing persons who were supposedly last seen near the lighthouse, which is also addressed in this chapter.
Selena contuine to read the passage. "Lighthouse might give me a clue," She thought to herself.

The curiosity overwelming me, I head over to the door and look out into the alley
