He turns towards you with an irritated expression on his face, then stops short when he notices the book in your hand, snatching it quickly from your hand in an action almost reminiscent of a bird of prey snatching up a fish in its talons. "Where did you get that?" he demands furiously, then swiftly composes himself. "I mean, yes, of course, this is just what I'm looking for. When and where did you happen to find this? I do hope you haven't done anything with it, it's quite rude to meddle with people's personal possessions, you know," he adds, again with that same slightly threatening undertone.
"Well, I had happened to find it near the new books section," I said. I showed the cookbook as proof. "I like finding out about new recipes and had found it laying there, so I grabbed it and showed it to the librarian, who said I could keep it. But, since you lost it, it should be yours."
"Also," I added, "I have no concept of time, really. I don't know when I entered the library nor the time right now. I'm sorry I can't tell you when I found it."

(I know nothing about Stardew Valley, kind of just assumed coffee chickens were a thing lol)
He narrows his eyes suspiciously at you. After a second, he seems to think that your response is acceptable. "Yes, it should be indeed be mine. I am grateful that you have returned it," he says with an air of satisfaction, back to his offsettingly smooth way of talking.

(No! Coffee chickens aren't a normal thing lol. I was thinking about summoning coffee through a naming glitch by buying and naming a chicken. Hence coffee chicken.)
"I'm glad you could find it," I say. And thank you for not killing me, I think. "So, uh, read any interesting books lately?" I couldn't think of doing much else, except maybe getting ice cream, but this man makes me nervous.
You wait at the shelf, but the shop keeper doesn't come back out to the counter. You continue hearing him rummaging around or whatever he's doing in the back room for several minutes, which gives way to a couple of creaks, but then the back room falls completely silent and he still doesn't return.
I grab my soup and head over to the counter. I knock on it a few times and say "hey, is everything alright in there?"

(Wow, coffee chicken indeed. I wanna get Stardew Valley.)
He looks at you like you've asked a stupid question. "I read many books, things you would not consider interesting," he says distastefully. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have important business to return to." He walks out of the library without another word, not looking back at you or the librarian, as if you're both unworthy of his notice.

You hear no response from behind the door, not even a sound at all.
You're not sure whether the door is locked or not, but it can't hurt to check, can it? Then again, you could just mind your own business and wait, or go to another shop or something.

I go to the door and knock on it to see if anything happens then call out again

Eleni pretends not tosee the officers, hops down, and pulls the trapdoor after her. "Man, didn't know i was gonna run from the law today. "she chuckles quietly. "That's somethin'." She then looks around.

"Bye?" I watch as he walks away. "Dang. Should've asked what cooking books he read. Oh whatever. Time for ice cream!" I walk out of the library and head my normal route to the ice cream shop, clutching my cookbook close.
(You should! You also get to befriend villagers of the town and work at a farm! It's more fun than it sounds, I promise. I'm, in my second save, chasing after the same guy to marry as my first save. According to most of the fandom, I have no taste lol.)
Outside, it's bright and sunny, but still a crisp autumn day, as you feel a cool wind ruffle your hair and the pages of the sketchbook you're holding. Nothing outside seems to be amiss, either, people are rushing by you on their way to their respective destinations as usual, without paying you any heed- just the regular bustle that gets even more busy the farther downtown you get, you're accustomed to the sounds of the city.
From farther away, you hear the deep ringing of the bell tower beyond the comforting sounds of footsteps, occasional yelling, jingling, and indistinct chatter, counting out eleven tolls.
Where do you want to go to look for your friends?
I decide to head to the nearest park, figuring that one of my friends will probably be there enjoying the weather. And if I'm wrong, I could always find something interesting to draw. Whistling a cheerful tune, I begin walking to the park, my peculiar dream forgotten for now.
