It's one of three protiens that appearently resemble hedgehogs (prickly). So there's DHH (Desert Hedgehog), IHH (Indian Hedgehog), and SHH (Sonic Hedgehog). The world is run by nerds, my friend. It's glorious.

Other fun gene names include:

Swiss Cheese
Cheap Date
Ken and Barbie
INDY (ImNotDeadYet)
Couch Potato
Tinman
Clark Kent, Superman, and Kryptonite

Some of these are really clever (Tinman is a mutated gene that prevents heart devlopment), while others are downright halarious (Ken and Barbie-- Snrk-- It's not kosher but Google it if you must know.) I think the ones I posted are mostly fruit fly genes except the last three, though, haha.

Can confirm, it's a wasp.

There's also:
- Vini vidivici (A phrase meaning "I came, I saw, I conqured") (an ironically extinct parrot)
- Spongiforma squarepantsii (Some sort of fungus that looks like a sponge)
- Gelae baen, Gelae rol, Gelae fish, Gelae belae, and Galae donut (Pronounced "jelly") (A bunch of beetles)
- Ba humbugi (A snail)
- Ittibitium (A genus of small sea snails)
- Pieza pi, Pieza rhea, and Pieza kake. (Flies.)
- Heerz lukenatcha and Heerz tooya (More flies.)
- Darthvaderum and Polemistus chewbacca (A genus of mites and a species of wasp, respectively.)

Makes me wonder what exactly the scientists who named them were thinking. "Oh, just for memes."

That's the only way I can hope to explain a name like freaking Spongiforma squarepantsii.

so the majority of you guys probably don't know this but my dog, who is was very bonded to, recently died. coming form a household of 27 pets I have other animals to fill the space i suppose? but it just wasn't the same. I truly miss Charlie, his death isn't something I'll forget for a long time but i needed a dog. my parents understood this and the day after, is that insensitive? i don't know but i cope by distracting myself i guess, we started looking for new dogs. specifically jack russels, i was very adamant about that.
we eventually found one all the way out in Oklahoma and got him flown in almost 2 weeks ago. i figured i should become more active and introduce to some of the best people I've ever talked to my new friend.

say hello to Otto ^-^

oh and Lark, this is my official "I'm not on hiatus anymore" message. thought I'd bring myself back on a lighter note :)
