What is Regeneration?

When a pet species goes through an art update, sometimes traits are shuffled, altered, or split to accommodate the new version and the way its trait slots are organised.

Regen refers to the implemented measure to deal with this. When pets have their traits made regennable, traits that have been altered in such a way to critically change them (traits being split, traits being moved so as to be mutually exclusive with another trait) are reduced to a TP count- matching the amount those changed traits that they had prior to the revamp would be worth- that the owner of the pet can then redistribute at will. Generally only the traits available prior to the revamp will be available for selection with little exception.
As of the Lupora revamp, traits that are not significantly altered or moved will be locked on pets that have those traits (see post 3 and 4)

Colours can also be regennable, and pets can have Trait only, Colour only, or both available for regeneration, or have their colour scheme updateable, and can depend on the cause for the regen becoming available and the pets type (Theme, Generated, Starter, etc.)

As with designing pets in the genetator, Hidden traits are not possible.

The pet will remain regennable until regenerated, regardless of the amount of time that passes from the regen becoming active.

What can cause a pet to become Regennable

As said above, traits can be shuffled, altered, and/or split into multiple slots as two traits. The colour slots traits draw from can be altered, colours themselves swapped, or the way the trait and the colour interact changed. Some Themes have been redone because their previous colour setup no longer worked with their revamped traits due to these points.

With the Puffadore and Lunemaras revamps, the colour slots Accent Colour 1 and Accent Colour 2 were introduced. It is likely all pet species revamped after these two revamps will have these colours integrated into their traits, and so it is likely that they will at least be able to regenerate those two colours.

Examples of alterations that have incited regens:

- Morkko's Leaf Veins moving to G2 from G3 during their revamp caused all Morkko that had the trait to be regennable,

- Multiple Ny'vene traits being split into a body M1 and head M2 from its previous single slot, making any pet with those split traits completely regennable,

- Several Puffadore Runes post-revamp had their colour opacities altered, decreasing the white overlay/increasing the colour saturation. Pets affected had the colour slots relevant to the puffadores particular G3 trait regennable.

Dyed Theme Update

If a Themed or PB Themed sylesti Dyed, it will gain access to the Themed Colour Update button that will allow it to return to its original colour set.

If a PB offspring is bred from a theme or PB theme that has been Dyed, it too will have access to the Theme Colour Update button.

If the pet is bred from a pet that has descended from lines of Dyed pets that were dyed prior to the update that introduced this function, it will not have access to the button unless a dye is used on it, which will trigger the appearance of the Update button.

Types of Regen

There are multiple different variations to regens:
In pets where it is colour only regen of a trait is locked, the text is greyed out, and the dropdown list unselectable.
Colours that are regennable will have an arrow next to them that turns green when the colour slot is selected, as in the regular generator. Colour slots that are not regennable lack this arrow and cannot be selected.

- colour only, sometimes only some colours, sometimes all colours.

- trait slots only, typically found in Themed pets.

- both

Nyvene, revamped before AC1 and AC2 were put into use, and unable to regen them.

Puffadore, the revamp in which AC1 was implemented. Unable to regen AC2.

Lunemara, the revamp in which AC2 was created.

Lupora, all non-themed pets with C2, AC1, and AC2 regennable, other colours depending on the pet's type (generated/tamed/offspring) and (prior) traits.

- theme update; while themed pets generally have their colours completely locked, they can become viable for theme updates. This was implemented because with alterations to pets during revamps, their old colour palette no longer works with their new setup.

- Regen and theme update are not mutually exclusive. Either Regenning the traits or Updating the theme will not cancel out the other.

- Aurleon Theme regen- Themed aurleon that became eligible for trait regen did not have their colours locked as all other theme pets

Traits and colours

- Traits you can't select vs traits you can
The only traits you can choose for Regen pets are typically traits that existed prior to the revamp.

Additionally, Restricted Traits, even if they existed on the species prior to the revamp, cannot be selected.

However, there are exceptions to the rule- some traits were added after revamps specifically to be regennable, sometimes relating to player feedback.
The lunemaras regennable G2 traits- aside from (AA) Frosted Tips- are all post-regen traits, available for regen due to the fact that Frosted Tips was the only trait lunemara had in that trait. Their M2 trait (KK) Smooth Abdomen was the original revamp abdomen, which was altered due to community feedback culminating in a Community Poll to decide how the traits would be handled.

- Certain trait slots being locked in
If certain traits/trait slots were unaffected overall by the Revamp, those slots may not be made regennable.

In the case of a pet having a restricted trait in their genetics- whether visible or carried, the trait slot will be locked, and thus not be regennable. If you have a pet that falls into this category, you can contact Krinadon with a link to the pet and request to have the trait removed. Krinadon can remove the trait(s), which will free up the trait point(s) that the slot was using.

Lunemara with locked M2 because it has hidden restricted trait Lucky Dust:

Lupora with locked mutations and genes as they don't qualify for regen:

- No hiddens
Regenerated pets cannot be made to have Hidden Traits (Carried traits in the same slot as a Visible trait.) This excludes the cases of Restricted Traits and other Locked trait slots that already had a Hidden trait in them.

- Can't see carried traits
Regenerated pets, as normal pets, will only show Carried traits if they have been genetically tested.

- Lunemara Glitch
While as a rule Regen is only available to pets that existed before their species revamp, and the only traits they can regen are non-restricted traits that existed prior to the revamp, there was a slight bug with some Lunemara; Lunemara who came into existence on 8/13/17 had access to the full list of new traits.

This is because there was a slight discrepancy between when the traits were added to the database list and when the site went down to implement the revamp.

As it would be rather a hassle to try to fix it, Krinadon decided to leave it be, giving those with affected Lunemara the go-ahead.

- Pet having had a G2/G3 trait moved to G1/G2 slot that had a trait in it
The program that works out how each pet will be altered works down the traits G1 > G2 > G3 etc. So G1 traits go first "Is this trait remaining, moving or turning into Regen points?", then the G2, then G3. So if by the time it reaches G2/3 the trait in the slot it is being moved to has been turned into Regen points, that trait will move to its new slot.
Krinadon talks about it a bit here.

- Can't regen an offspring's colours/ Theme Update on an offspring
As of the implementation of the Purebreed Tagging, PBs will now get treated as Tagged themes, and will have access to Theme Updates rather than free colour regens.

Questions

If breeding regennable pets have not had TP reassigned:
Breeding pets that are regennable treats them as 0TP- they have no traits to pass on. Locked traits will pass on per usual, but unassigned regen points will not.

If breeding a pet has had its TP reassigned
Pets that have been regenned pass on the traits they were regenned with.

What happens with eggs during revamp?
Eggs that were bred before a Revamp and hadn't yet hatched will become regennable if their traits (which are decided the second an egg is created) were ones that would trigger a regen.

Can I make a pet regennable?
Pets cannot be made regennable in any way other than Species Revamp (under the conditions listed previously in this guide), or under certain conditions applying to alterations made to traits post-revamp (specific to those pets that fall within the parameters of traits altered in this change)

Example of Regen Process; Before, During, & After

A pre-regen ny'vene:

With these genetics:
G1: carried Tiger Stripes (1TP)
G2: carried Cecropia Mark (1TP)
G3: Gaboon Viper (carried Magma Runes) (2TP)
M1: carried Battle Armor (1TP)
M2: Jeweled Horns (carried Ram Horns) (2TP)
M3: Essence of Flame (2TP)
(Total: 9TP)

Her appearance immediately post-revamp, as a Regennable pet, traits removed due to trait placement alteration and trait alteration:

The closest she could get to her previous trait setup would be:

G1: Gaboon Viper (2TP)
G2: carried Magma Runes (1TP)
G3: carried Cecropia Mark (1TP)
M1:Essence of Flame (2TP)
M2: Jeweled Horns (2TP)
M3: - (0TP)
(Total: 8TP)

With the Ny'vene, all body traits were condensed into G1 (Tiger Stripes (unmoved), Gaboon Viper (previously G3))
All body Runes were put into G2 (Magma Runes (previously G3))
All wing traits were moved from G2 to G3
Mutations were split into Body (M1), Head (M2), and Wing/Effect (M3), meaning several that were previously a single trait were split into two (eg. Essence of Flame from M3 into both M1 and M2))

The Regeneration screen works very similarly to the regular generator- you select colour slots, and then choose and save colours into them, and select traits from the drop down menus (varying, of course, by the type of regen the pet has available.)

So we could click "Regenerate pet"- with all traits and colours regennable and get this
(Shown here with the old colours but newly selected traits):

And once we played with and altered the colours, and decided we liked everything, we could hit 'regenerate' and now she looks like this:

Future Revamps

List of future and upcoming revamps, though they may or may not result in regennable pets.

Regen is more likely to become applicable in the High Priority species, which are older, and whose traits are less organised.
Mid Priority species are more likely to just get lesser art alterations, adjustments to shading, and layering fixes.

The species are not in order of which is next up on the revamp list- it is likely it will be decided via Site Poll once the Lupora is finished up, as that was how the Lupora was decided on.

Current/Next:

Qitari (Trait slot colour usage)

High Priority (Full Revamp):

Bulbori

Species With Partial Revamps Pending
Aeridini
Lighira
Griffi
Nephini
Ryori

Species With Minor Trait/Color Updates Pending
Aurleon
Draeyl
Kelpari
Luffox

Pre-Revamp Apperances
Under Construction

The first few images are drawn from the linked forum posts. Several are drawn from the Wiki's page on Revamps. Some are from our own files (we joined mere days after the Draeyl revamp, so only have image records sylvorpa onward (as I only owned two qitari at the time their revamp went live, and did not save their pre-revamp images)
