Aylen slid down your arm and landed on the ground. She picked up a burnt piece of straw which was half as big as her and began tying it into a knot. "More than one person might be alive for all you know," she pointed out while idly playing with the straw.

Elysetta turned so her back was to you and spread open her broken wing with a slight wince. "Feel along the bone structure and find the place that feels, well, broken," she instructed you.

Malak positioned himself on the bed behind Elysetta. He took a deep breath and then laid his hands upon her broken wing. He was incredibly grateful that her back was to him because he could feel his face growing hot as he felt along the bone structure of your wing. He finally found a spot that felt out of place.

"From what I've heard of such procedures," he told her, "I'm afraid this may hurt a little." Applying a quick bout of pressure he heard a distinct snap that he hoped meant that the bone had set correctly.

You could feel the pixie tense slightly at your touch, and when you snapped her bone back into place, there was a distinct hiss of pain from her. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, turning back to face you with a shaky smile on her face. "Thank you. I suppose you can do one thing right today," she teased.

Malak breathed a sigh of relief when it appeared that he had managed to set the bone correctly and not caused more damage. He stood up and returned to his own bed, putting some distance between them simply for his own comfort at this point. He felt like he was sitting in the middle of a bonfire being that close to her.

"Yes," he agreed, giving a shaky chuckle, "Well, I am but the student. Good thing I have a capable teacher."
He smiled at her, though he still felt a touch unsteady. "Perhaps it is best we both get some sleep now."

She nodded in agreement, settling down in the bed. She was curled up in a tight ball again, her wings wrapped around her as best she could.

And after a few minutes, you drifted into a somewhat uneasy sleep.

When you woke up in the morning, Elysetta was not in her bed, nor was she anywhere that you could see.

The little boy gave a small shrug and turned his toy around, making explosion sounds with his mouth. "My momma once took me to the swamp, and it was gross there," he told you.

Lisette giggled. "A good gross or a bad gross?"

She stood up on her knees. "Thanks, lil' friend. Also, do you happen to know where to get a map here?"

He wrinkled his nose with a smile. "Good and bad gross," he told you, sticking out his tongue. "And map for what? Gilador?" he asked.

Malak sat on his bed and watched Elysetta curl up and get comfortable. He watched her for a few moments longer, still trying to make sense of everything. At last he gave up and curled up onto his own bed. It felt much better than sleeping on the ground back at the lake. Even so, once he did fall asleep, it was not restful.

When he woke up the next morning Malak felt that something wasn't right. He sat straight up in bed, patted himself down to make sure all of his possessions were where they should be (including the feather from Elysetta's wings which was still tucked inside his shirt). He turned to Elysetta to see if she was awake only to find...she wasn't here.

"Elysetta?!" he shouted, rather more loudly than he had intended, jump up off of his bed and spinning around in a circle, frantically looking for any sign of his companion.

You desperately searched for your companion, but the pixie was nowhere to be found. Simply, she was not in the room at all. You almost felt panicked. Her bed was made, but your satchel was also missing, you found.
