The cover feels weirdly fuzzy under your fingertips, beneath the dust, that is. Siara shrugs. "I don't really know - Fantasia's known for innovation, and part of it's magical, for sure. But these look like relatively simpler crafts. More of personal items than the kind of mechanical inventions found in Fantasia, right?"
The cases contain a variety of items, a pen propped upright in an ink pot, an old-fashioned fan, a pocket watch. You can't tell what they do at first glance, but there are nameplates below them that likely explain their uses.

"Heh, yeah. Around where I live, it's pretty non-magical (as far as I know.) But yeah, I've heard stories about the richer segments of town." I examine the objects casually.
Passerby give you weird looks as you eat the crackers, but no one questions you. Pretty soon, you find yourself in the main part of Downtown Fantasia, outside of the peaceful area near your college campus. The quiet streets give way to busy ones, and you're jostled quite a few times as people rush by you, shouting and clanging forming the backing track. There are buildings lining the streets on either side of you, any of them could be stores.
Evan walks on the side closest to the stores, looking through the windows to see if any of them would sell some soup. If he sees one that could have some, he will go in and ask
The section has assorted books in various genres sorted by alphabetical order rather than genre, but you soon enough find a glossy new cookbook with an exotic looking dish on the front. You don't even recognize any of the ingredients in it.
There are no sci-fi or waking-up-yesterday books, but you notice a rather old-looking novel lying haphazardly on top of the shelf like someone lazily put it back.
I grab both the cookbook and the novel laying haphazardly on top of the shelf and walked towards the checkout place. "I'll check out these two," I said.
I'd question myself over why I grab the book on top of the shelf, but I took advantage of the free book giveaways whenever my school hosted them back in school. Where the free, slightly battered books are, I have no idea, but at least I got some.
(Feel free to have Trox say their only line to plain air and create an awkward scene :P)
"Oh, don't worry, it won't matter anyways," she mutters, strangely. "Just don't drag anyone else in here, you'll regret it," she adds, but she just sounds frustrated rather than an actual threat.
"I dragged myself in here. Does that count? Also, uh, do you like, need help with stuff?"

"Oh yeah, that would make sense. And even if you've seen one before, there's probably a good chance you wouldn't notice, too. I doubt these here do anything amazing, though they'd probably be pretty expensive."
There's nothing that would give away the fact that these objects are magical. They're all clean and in fairly good condition, except for a long scratch down the front of the pocket watch.
Siara reads the description of the fan over your shoulder. "The oldest of these objects on display, this fan was donated by Sir Gallio Torsney from his personal collection, as a gift at the founding of the library. It can indefinitely hold the scent of any object of its user's choosing. Its crafter is unknown. From what you're saying, yeah, it does make sense for all these items to have been previously owned by people. I can't imagine they'd actually just buy magical things for the sake of display. Still neat, though."

"Heh, yeah." Interesting.... I actually didn't know that. I mean, I did, but when it comes to magical items one envisions something large and rather ornate.

You have no clue if the stores sell soup at all judging by the windows. You could go look for a restaurant, however. As you pass one with an open door, you hear something of a commotion inside. "What do you mean, you don't know?!" someone demands.

I peek inside to see what is happening and try to make eye contact with the shop owner to non-verbaly ask if they need any help

The novel doesn't have a title, neither on the spine nor the front. The dark green cover is a bit cracked with age and use, but aside from that, there are no labels at all. Maybe the reason it wasn't shelved was because someone didn't know where to put it?
The library stamps the cookbook, but she gives the old one a dismissive wave. "That's not ours, it doesn't have a label," she says, pointing to a thin, pale blue strip stuck to the spine of the cookbook. "You can have it if you want, we don't really have a lost-and-found for other people's books."
