Where we're starting:

Its been 3 years since Empress Seraphina was coronated, and 3 years since the late Emperor Axelio was tragically poisoned. On the night of his death anniversary, the nobles of the empire and its neighbors and the imperial family have gathered in the great hall for a mass mourning ceremony. Despite the sad occurrence, most nobles have taken the chance to curry favor with the imperial family or esteemed nobility of other kingdoms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Empress Seraphina wasn't paying attention to any of the other nobles in front of her. They were chatting away about topics that had nothing to do with the reason they all gathered here in the first place. Even if she strongly disliked her late father, it was extremely disrespectful to the imperial family. However, her eyes were on the portrait of her father that was painted just months before he was poisoned. She honestly thought it was Karma. He had it coming to him, it was only a matter of time before someone he trusted deeply to poison him. Her eyes moved across the room, to a woman wearing a black dress, like everyone else in the room including herself. She was doing her usual fake crying bit she did every year at this gathering, to earn the pity of nobles. Diane De Macellio. The culprit of the Emperors death, and yet she got away with it. But she honestly had to thank her, a bit. It would've been years before her father handed the throne down, and he most likely would've gave it to that womans son and her half brother, despite Seraphina being the one and only proper heir. But all of that was in the past. Its not like she loved her father.
Nicote was attempting (and failing) to look neutral about everything, but really he was most annoyed today. Bildernia was a highly magical country and as such, many nobles wanted to make sure they were friendly with the future king (or who they thought would be king) so they wouldn't get cursed or something. Which meant that NIcote, who was the representative heir, was being bombarded.
"Don'tget it. We can't curse them. Our magic is not of that type." Nicote murmured to his sister, who nodded in agreement.
"It took too much energy out of you the last time you and Newt had to curse someone."
"Don't remind me, Nanita." The heir to the throne sighed. He was still recovering, in fact. But he'd recovered more then his brother, the one who they'd planned would be the real person in charge. THus he was stuck here. At a mourning ceremony. He wasn't even the kind to cry or anything....
Adelaide hadn't been too fazed when her father died, she had barely known him and from what little she did know he wasn't the best of people. Perhaps it was better that he was dead, her sister might actually allow her to marry for love rather than alliance after all. The red haired girl shook her head immediately after thinking this, what did she care? It wasn't as if she already had someone in mind for marriage. She stared at the ground, trying to will the tears that wouldn't come.
Calliope was standing next to her lady silently, waiting for some order to grab a glass of water for Adelaide or a handkerchief. She felt sympathetic for the imperial family, even if the king was not a large part of their lives it must have been difficult to have such a sudden event take place. Calliope was sympathetic Empress Seraphina in particular for she couldn't have expected to become Empress so suddenly. She looked over at the empress briefly before turning back to Adelaide, her head bowed.
(I'll just drop my wolf outlaw anywhere because he's the only one I actually care about right now sorry prince folcard so whoever wants to interact with him with a non-noble or something can.
I'm a little write blocked so I'll try to reply the best I can to people, hopefully I'm not too slow though.)
Armias Folcard
As expected of a Caemid royal, the elven prince was healthily enjoying himself in the impromptu festivities to honor the late Emperor of Arkaos. While the mourning was all and good, it was never quite his scene and he had taken a personal liberty to try and lift the spirits of other nobles in attendance. Through.. more than a respectful amount of drunken, hearty conversation.
His knight, Ziva, had taken an aside to his shenanigans, her head buried in her hands at the absolute buffoon he was making of himself. Just like his father he was.. More than she was being paid to deal with. The young prince was a handful. Life would catch up to him eventually.
Lowell Brichalles
The assassin made himself at home at a dusty tavern on the edge of town. He had the dark hood of his cloak pulled over his head, concealing his lupine features from any who would try to break his present concentration as he looked over a scroll with hastily written instructions. If word was to be trusted, there was a sort of gathering for the late Emperor this night. He still remained oblivious to his client's identity, but their objective was clear. Someone at their level had their hands dirty and was paying him incredibly well to silence any would-be rats.
Though.. This was seeming far more than a simple rat the more he read through the scroll. Killing the Empress? He'd consider the notion completely asinine if the pay wasn't a mountain in itself.
Whatever this was, it was clear this meant two things. One, his client wanted the dirty work off their own hands..
And two.. This meant it wasn't going to be easy for him. He couldn't remember the last time he had taken a challenge of a job. He couldn't let the anticipation get the best of him.
For now, his task was using the festivities as cover to get inside the palace. He folded the scroll, pocketing it as he steeled himself and left a few coins on the counter for the bartender. This was going to be one hell of a night.
Seraphina had soon came to the decision to exit the party. She was tired of this. And although she was very sure that the nobles would begin partying in her absence, but she didnt have the time to keep them on a leash. She turned around, exiting the hall. Several nobles immediately noticed her leave and attempted to follow, but non of their efforts worked.
Nicote closed his eyes so he could roll them without anyone noticing. And subsequently got elbowed by Nanita for doing so. "What?" he muttered.
"Don't be rude." she whispered.
"I"m not."
Nanita just sighed. Her brother could be such a pain sometimes....
Lowell Brichalles
After a bit of a trek across town and an almost close brush with some palace guards, Lowell had pulled himself up to a high balcony of the palace, crouching as the metal piece of the now-broken grappling hook tumbled to the ground with a clink on the palace's outer walkway stones.
Well, so much for getting down, his ears flicked back as he heard the sound of guards investigating below.
Getting this far had been easy, but at this rate, it was looking like he'd probably have to cut his way out of here after the deed was done. Typical.
He tested the door to the inside and to his surprise found it unlocked. He pushed himself inside as the voices of guards picked up below him, carefully shutting the door behind him as his eyes quickly adjusted to the low-light level of the empty study he found himself in.
He plucked a thorny twig from the side of his furry face, keeping his eyes on the closed door to the hall. The sound of nobles chattering reached his ears from below, but up here, things seemed silent.
Well, if nothing else, he had a moment to catch his breath and come up with a plan. With any luck, he'd be able to catch his target the moment the party broke. It was just a waiting game.
He just silently hoped he wouldn't have to wait too long.
Seraphina exited the hall, a maid and 3 guards waiting for her outside. She didnt stop walking and the maid simply followed, with the guards tailing behind. The guards were on alert, since a disturbance had been reported not that long ago. However, they failed to mention this to the Empress. Not that she already hadn't sensed their vivid uneasiness, but she assumed that, considering what today was, they were secretly in mourning.
Adelaide was somewhat annoyed, no, very annoyed at Seraphina's decision to just leave the party. Was she just going to leave her siblings to try and figure out some way to converse and gain favor among the nobles? Adelaide shook her head, trying to tame her fiery temper, if Seraphina wanted to leave she could and Adelaide could do the same. Nothing was chaining her to this event after all. Adelaide smiled as she walked out of the hall, Calliope walking right beside her. She went somewhat unnoticed by the nobles Adelaide noted or perhaps they simply didn't care, she was only a princess after all.
Wih the empress and the princesses of the kingdom gone, Nicote suddenly found himself bombarded from all sides by nobles trying to gain favor with Bildernia. As he attempted to explain that he couldnt make any decisions due to the fact his brother wasnt here, Nanita fought off a laugh.
