All right, I totally ran out of time on this, but I'm submitting the unfinished project in the hope that it might still have merit as an entry. :P Also, if there's a time extension, I will attempt to finish this. Edit: I didn't even see that the deadline was a lot later than the official deadlines! Is that right? I have time to finish this then!

When I learned that crafts were an option for this contest, pretty quickly I settled on using a doll pattern I had developed in the past to make a Sylestia winter themed doll and outfit. I waited for the new avi items to come out, and settled on the Lunar Fairy set, especially as it seemed appropriate for the Christmas theme, as it was the Advent calendar set.

I attempted to recreate specifically this avi:



I was originally going to make the entire set, but...that didn't happen. Even the whole outfit hasn't happened yet.

Warning: will be picture-heavy. Also, doll is not wearing clothes part of the time, but there isn't anything to see. XD


Supplies set up, all from my stash. I bought nothing for this project. Edit: Ok, I had to buy a bit more embroidery thread. :P (Also, old username. I updated the tag.)


Body parts in various states of completion. I decided the leggings would be best sewn directly on the legs and into the body.


Body is done!


Eyes were embroidered and head was made. (With a minimalist face, little variations make a big difference. It took a few tries to get the look right.)


Head attached! She's bald, though.


The hair is embroidered on with turkey stitch, with really long loops. (Reeeeally long. I used a lot of thread.)

I only started working on the outfit this morning, and her hair is still patchy, not full. But I'll post the pictures anyway as they are all I have so far.


The skirt is pinned into pleats.


I sewed up the skirt, added a ribbon waistband and tie, and pinned a temporary bodice on that didn't really work. (Too short.) But actually, she looks pretty good, even without the arm gloves/sleeves, shoes, and full hair. Which is why I still decided to post this! (Wow, the flash really made everything reflect. I think reducing increased that as well.)

And that's all I have so far. I will continue to work on this and hopefully have it done soon.

After a few tries, I have a proper under-bodice.


For the over-bodice, I cut the pattern out of a basic fabric and sewed the delicate fabric to it first before cutting it out. Much easier that way.


After a ridiculous amount of work for such a small thing, the whole bodice is finished. The over bodice sewn on, some lace added, a sequin added, and hooks and eyes added for fastening.


One of the arm gloves is finished.


And the final result! I added a strap to the bodice and sewed some of the purple fabric onto it, cut it, and frayed it. Which it is very good at.

(Yes, she still has no shoes. Oh well.)

It's still not really complete, but I am very pleased with the results anyway. I still want to add the trim to the skirt, make some shoes, and make a tiara for her, but as she is, she's a good likeness of my avatar already.
