Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy) "May the stars shine down on you."
Rosalina is a sorceress who lives in space with her adopted children, the Lumas. In the game her home was attacked by Bowser, leaving her stranded in space. After you, Mario, help to get Power Stars in order re-power her home she agrees to help Mario rescue Princess Peach, who Bowser had kidnapped.

Bowser is the main antagonist. He is in love with Princess Peach and is constantly kidnapping her.

Tippi-2007-Super Paper Mario-Wii
Tippi is the main partner of Super Paper Mario. You meet her at the beginning of the game, and she stays for the rest of the game. As you progress, you uncover her tragic backstory.

Similar to Tippi before her, Kersti is the main partner of the game. She's a little ruder, but she can provide helpful infomation!

Paper Mario: Color Splash
Revived due to the Orange paint he resides in Redpepper Volcano. After beating him you can ride him as long as you have a fishing rod and a Magma Burger to go over magma pools!
(Really doesn't have a lot of backstroy)

Yoshi (Super Mario 64 DS)
Yoshi is a lovely little dinosaur who, in the main series games, sometimes gets thrown into the abyss by mario for an extra jump. However, in Super Mario 64 DS, he is the hero of the story. Unlike the normal version, in the DS version of the game you start as Yoshi, going to rescue not only Princess Peach but Mario too as both have been captured by Bowser.

Captain Toad More Specifically the one I'm most familiar with from Mario Galaxy
Captain Toad appears as the self-proclaimed captain of the Toad Brigade. In the game, he appears to be one of the few that had escaped the destruction of Mushroom Kingdom, along with his fellow Toad Brigade members and Luigi. The Toads soon lost Luigi in space, and soon all of them found themselves in the Honeyhive Galaxy.

Bowser Mario Odyssey Version
Bowser returns in Super Mario Odyssey, once again as the main antagonist. He invades the Cap Kingdom and kidnaps Tiara to commence his "royal wedding" with Princess Peach, defeating Mario via his wedding hat and shredding the Mario Cap. He then sets up his "wedding", stealing artifacts from various kingdoms to fulfill his desires, and hiring the Broodals to help him against Mario. Although he does not steal anything needed for the wedding from the Metro Kingdom, he does nonetheless cause massive chaos in the kingdom regardless by having Mechawiggler attack the city as well as various tanks, and also proceeded to plaster several ads advertising his wedding
