So... I read all the way through this finally. xD But I saw no mention of the effects of inbreeding... What does inbreeding affect? What happens when offspring are inbred? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. ^_^

Inbreeding has no effect on the offspring. It was introduced so that players can see and be more aware of inbreeding problems, so that they can prevent the situation where their pets can't breed (ie share a common parent).

Some players may personally prefer having a low inbreeding percentage, but most breeders don't really bother with it. The inbreeding percentage does not affect colours, traits, stats, or anything.

I had a zolnixi hatchling where both parents had the visible witch doctor gene, but she displayed a visible kitsune gene. I was curious to know why this would happen.

Each baby receive a trait from each parent. It is likely that one, if not both, of the parents have a hidden kitsune gene in their genes. The only way you can see hidden traits (or carries) would be to get them genetically tested.

Using one of your pets as an example: https://www.sylestia.com/view/pets/?petid=1822028

On his pet's profile:
Gene One: Tribal Stripes
Gene Two: Kitsune
Gene Three: None
Mutation One: None
Mutation Two: Talismans
Mutation Three: Comet Moth Wings

When you use the advanced search:
Gene 1: (NB) Tribal Stripes
Gene 2: (DE) Kitsune
Gene 3: (NN) Nothing
Mutation 1: (NN) Nothing
Mutation 2: (AM) Talismans
Mutation 3: (NB) Comet Moth Wings

So even though he shows visible Kitsune (D), he has a chance of passing down the trait Dapple (E).
So the parent(s) probably shows visible Witch Doctor (C), but carries a hidden Kitsune (D).

If a pet has two different traits in the same slot, the "dominant" trait will be visible, while the "recessive" trait will be hidden (ie not visible but can be passed down to offspring). You can see the dominance of each trait relative to each other by looking at the advanced search. The more dominant traits are higher on the alphabetical scale.

Wow. This helps a ton. When you say you can get essences from the nurturing game, is there like a game to play to win essences?

I hear you can win essences Jinxie's Jamboree. I've never done it myself so I don't know if it's true. It would probably be easier to go to the trade broker and search for the kind of essence you want, and then buy it.

You can get essences from nurturing egglings/hatchlings, battling pets, or opening mission satchels. I'm told you can also get them from playing Jinxie's Jamboree, but never personally played it, so I wouldn't know for sure. All the "natural" drop rates are very low though, so you'll need a lot of the action (or a lot of luck) to get an essence, especially if you're looking for a particular species.

Alternatives would be to go to the trade broker and buy essences from other players, or if you have diamonds, go to the diamond shop.
