Hi!!

If you havent found out already then I will tell you.
Pets have a two letter code to their genetics.
Each letter repersents a trait.
Letters closer to z are ressessive.
Letters closer to A are dominate.
So a pet can have the same or diffrent letters in their code.
For example a pet (lets name it Ace) hade AA
And another pet (nemed Cane) has CC
If you use punnet system you will see all their babys will be AC.
BUT you will only see the C in the AC code if the pet is geneticly tested.
That C in the AC code is called a hidden trait.
If the baby (lets call it Tore) is not geneticly tested the only the A trait will show up in the genetics section, as AA
Pets who are not geneticly tested will automaticly only show visable trait letters.
Hiddens (like the C for Tore) can be passed down to offsoring even if you have not geneticly tested and cannot see the C trait

So say Tore ( who was AC) has a baby with another pet (lets name this pet Jade) who is AC too, then they have a chance of having babys who areAA, AC or CC

Baby One , is AA and will only show and pass on the A trait to Offspring
Baby two, is AC and will show A and hide C, both can be passed on to offspring
Baby three, is CC, so C is now shown and has no hidden ressessive genes, and C will be passed on to all offspring

Baby three is like your Nixi with Steam Punk wings, her parents both had a dominate and a resessive hidded gene. When they bred the baby got both ressesive genes and now shows off a ressessive trait.

So say I have the parents, and both carry 1 GP in each of 2 traits. say, 1 A and 1 B each. What are my chances of getting offspring with both traits visible? Am I correct in saying it's a 25/2 chance, since there's a 25% chance for each trait and I'd have to get both, or am I being stupid there?

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question correctly, which I think you mean you have 2 pets, both carrying 1gp in two traits: so both pets have gene 1 NA, gene 2 NA.

Each parent would have a 50% chance of passing down nothing (N) or the trait (A)

So for that trait slot, there's a 25% chance of getting nothing (NN), 50% chance of getting a carry (NA), and a 25% chance of getting a visible (AA).

If you want to know the chance of getting a visible for both traits, it'll be 25% x 25% = 6.25% of getting both traits visible in one breeding.

If however, what you mean the pets have 1gp of two different traits in the same trait slot: so male gene 1 NA, female gene 1 NB.

Then there's a 25% chance of getting nothing (NN), 50% chance of getting a carry (either NA or NB), and a 25% chance of getting a visible with a hidden (AB).

Having a visible with hidden trait (e.g. AB), means the dominant trait (A) will be visible on the pet, but when it comes to breeding, there's a 50% chance either trait (A or B) will be passed down.

Hope I answered your question.

Yes, thanks. I just needed confirmation that for 2 different genes that would be correct. Thanks!

The two you tried to breed are probably closely related. They may be siblings or half-siblings. Pets with one of those familial relationships (or a parent & child) cannot be bred with each other. But if it isnt icky for you, you can breed a grandchild with his/her grandparent, a pair of cousins, or a niece/nephew with an aunt/uncle.
