Jay felt cautious even as he grabbed onto this first clue he'd had since he woke up. "You mean....you know the way out of here?" It seemed quite contrary. If Night knew the way out, then why were they still here? "If you do, hurry and show us!"

~~~
The mouse found herself hesitating once again. The fox also hadn't retreated, so it seemed like a standoff and that meant more conversation. "Oh dear. This is quite unbecoming of me to say and rather out of character too, but perhaps...did you wish to stay and talk to me more?" It wasn't the same as asking to stay herself, but it was still a forward step in terms of interactions.
'Surem" Scarlet quickly agreed, "what do you know about this place?" Scarlet was quiet curious about this manor because of the curse and being naturally curious. Hopefully she could make a friend out of the mouse.
"There's no percentage in hanging about. Now show us the way." Grey looked at the cat.
"How do I know where it is? I see traces of evidence, I make a conclusion. There's obviously a way out. If I knew the way i'd belong gone."
Grey and Hunter snorted as one. "Same." Again, at the same time, they gave each other 'the look'.
The mouse tittered out something like a laugh. "I know a great many things about this place. Us older denizens took to calling it a menagerie. Don't you think it fits? A collection for someone's viewing pleasure." She didn't know who that someone was, but she knew she didn't want to cross them. It was bad enough trapped like this, but she'd grown so used to her mouse fur that it seemed natural. It would be a punishment to be turned into something else.
~~~

Jay deflated with a strange mix of defeat and relief. Not that he didn't want to find the way out, but he did feel glad it wasn't so simple and that he hadn't just been blind all this time. "I see. We've been looking for the way out, but any extra eyes would be helpful. If you want to join us, you're quite welcome."

"I suppose menagerie is a fitting name," Scarlet thought it over a while, "do you know any way we could possibly get out?" Scarlet had gotten used to her fox fur but she missed her family.
