She huffs, looking tired for a second, before saying, "No, just get out and don't tell anyone in the meantime, it's not like you can help, anyways. As far as I know, I'm the only one-" she breaks off and shakes her head.

The novel doesn't have a title, neither on the spine nor the front. The dark green cover is a bit cracked with age and use, but aside from that, there are no labels at all. Maybe the reason it wasn't shelved was because someone didn't know where to put it?
The library stamps the cookbook, but she gives the old one a dismissive wave. "That's not ours, it doesn't have a label," she says, pointing to a thin, pale blue strip stuck to the spine of the cookbook. "You can have it if you want, we don't really have a lost-and-found for other people's books."

"Um, thank you," I say. I grab both of them and search for a table to sit at. Maybe I can guess at who owns the book or, maybe, it might solve the end of the world! That would be great.

"One who what? Doesn't exactly have a real job? Believes in a multiverse? Can't be crazier then whatever I'm doing honostly." Eleni shrugs. "I probably won't tell anyone if that's what you're worried about. People aren't exactly clamoring to talk to the weird girl doing weird stuff."

They can be, but they've got variation in style and type just like any other objects, depending on the crafter, price, and whatnot. Ones that are meant to have magic of the more showy type usually reflect that, but it's still up to the crafter/price the commissioner is paying for how much they want to embellish on top of the bare minimum. In addition, some of them may have more complicated materials concealed within them, or are purposefully downplayed, so you can never really be too certain.
Then again, if this Sir Gallio Torsney cares to give away a magical item, even if he's rich enough to have a whole collection, the item is still bound to be on the cheaper, and therefore less fancy, side. So again, it makes sense.

Read the other placards or do something else?

(Clarification because words are hard: magic doesn't automatically make things fancy looking, it's basically just putting materials together in a certain way. If it's more magicky, people might want to also make it appear more fancy to reflect that, but it doesn't have to be. Plus people might not want to do that so it doesn't get stolen or so it can be like a secret weapon or something. And of course the more ornate the actual craft, the more money it's going to take on top of it being magical, so they might forego the fancy appearance in favor of practicality/affordability.)

(Aww cute, added)

They don't seem a to notice you. "Sir, I have no idea what you're talking about, I must ask you leave or I will have you forcibly removed." The shop owner sounds tense, with a hint of confusion.
"Are you sure you're not drunk or something?" presses the other person. "I asked you just yesterday, and you said you had it!"
"Sir, I've never seen you before in my life."

(Heh, if only if only)

"The study tables are on the highest floor," says the librarian conveniently as she sees you looking in vain for a table. There are some couches tucked cozily into the corners, though, if you want to use those.
You glance at the stamp on the cookbook, which declares that it's due on the 25th, which would be... two weeks from now if it were the 11th.

I slowly slip inside and skert around the arguing people to the shop owner. "uhhh, is everything alright in here?" I quiently ask him

I decided to sit on a couch, setting my checked-out cookbook next to me. I open up the old, cracked book to a random page because I can. I read said page.

(If only.)

The store owner is the one arguing.
The other person notices you asking them and throws their hands up in exasperation. "I'll settle this later," they shout over their shoulder as they storm out.
The store owner wipes their forehead in relief, then hurriedly composes themself and turns to you. "Sorry about that, can I help you?"
