Everything I do in the context of Sylestia will be put here, such as commissions, contest submissions, gifts, etc. I normally write a small reflection for every piece I upload here but for some larger projects I'll write a much more thorough commentary on the process and my thoughts.

2021 Fall Festival - Avatar Item Design - 11/8/21
My submission, Starseekers
We did it!!! Starseekers is in the game!
Looking at the finals after a while, I realise I probably shouldn't have made the insides of the hair into the same starry design as the dress/robes. The purple should be an accent colour but now it's just over

I still can't do hair properly; it looks too flat despite all the shading. I need to find a way to make it look round and fluffy. Also, the hands + forearms are just weird

I like this one much better than the previous one. Probably because it doesn't involve drawing humans and I can do something simple lolll. On the other hand I completely forgot to shade the ducks orz I had a cool iridescence planned for the middle two but fate said no

My submission
I like how it turned out, though the shading on the legs makes them practically disappear into the background so not so good. Probably should have checked overall colour before I flattened the image. The thumbnail of this looks way better

Here I'm testing out some possible colour combinations and lighting before working on a final draft. As one can see, I struggle with colour theory lol. The fins in the purple one are cool though it was done using a layer mode, so further colouring beneath it was screwed; I had to scrap that idea

Once more I struggle with colour and composition but at least the pose and proportions look normal enough. Regardless, I still like it ^-^
And hey, the hair actually looks unflat this time!

So much lace! "I should get a lace brush," says Aphelion, and then promptly forgets about it two seconds later. Even though this was a sketch, this was incredibly challenging to draw. Clothing physics? How do cloth fall ground? Especially dress cloth? Gravity? What??? Gotta practice more.

Still much to improve. I think my anatomy is getting better, but there's still cloth physics, shading (like my submission for the summer contest, the legs are too dark they're melting into the background,,,), foreshortening (that arm in front, yikes), pose, composition, blablabla. I don't usually draw digitigrade legs so that was very hard for me to make it look normal and balanced. Colour scheme was nice though!
