How do I upgrade my battle skills? It is showing that you can upgrade one of the skills to add another star but how do I do this?

First, go to your stables. Then click on the pet you want to upgrade. Go to the box that says information and click on the button that says proficiencies. If you have a point available, the words under the box with the elements will be green and say available proficiency points: 1 or 2 or sometimes 3... Then go to the little images of the heart, the brain/arm, the paw, and the person and click on the one you want to upgrade. The heart is health, the brain/arm is strength or intelligence (you will be automatically bumped to one depending on which element your pet has), the paw is dexterity, and the person is Agility. When you click on the icon you want, the plus next to it will turn grey and the minus will turn red. The numbers underneath the icons (like 1/3 or 2/3 or 0/3) tell you what rank your pet is for that ability. The higher the rank, the more powerful the ability. Once you have decided on the ability, click on the button that says save points. Then your pet is ranked up and ready to go!

If you're asking about attack rankings, this is currently only possible in The Lost Grove. That's the lv60+ zone and the newest addition to the site.

When fighting in the Lost Grove, every use of an attack will give it a bit more %. Eventually (after much battling) it'll hit 100% and rank up.

If it gets to 100% does that mean is goes to the next rank? or next star?

After 100% it will hit the next rank and add a new star, yes.

Sometimes an attack will appear to go over 100% (say, 100.2%) during a fight. But after the fight ends, the attack will rank up and that extra 0.2% will go towards reaching the next rank after that.
