Start of my writing comp entry

It was a bright and sunny morning on Leio's birthday he was turning 12 and was super excited. They were going to have a beach party with swimming, horse riding and a treasure hunt too with a bbq, snacks and a picnic lunch/tea at some point. Leio's mum had given him a pair of new board shorts for the occasion he bounded out of bed and rushed to the shower so he'd be first ready for the day. Once out he raced into his parents room "mum mum dad dad wake up wake up it's today" he said excitedly bouncing on to the bed groaning his dad looked up "what time is it now little lion??" he said looking at Leio. "It's 8.30 but the guests will be arriving at the beach at 11.00 though we will need to be there early to set up" Leio responded. Shaking her head his mum said "Well go check if your sisters and brother are up and while one of us get coffee the other will help you get the twins ready not that he really needed it." Nodding Leio sped away passing big sister Emile's room where music was playing softly

"Heya sis" he said heading towards the twins room. "Right back at ya pest and happy birthday" she called heading for the shower. Jodie and Ruben 4-year-old twins were awake chattering happily to each other. Once everyone was dressed the family gathered for a birthday breakfast of french toast, bacon, ice cream, maple syrup and berries it was a sweet but messy delight. Buuuutt then the madness began breaking the brief peace as life and time took over with a car to pack and people to organize. There was a sad edge to the chaos as the oldest kids Ben and Nova were away overseas and couldn't make it as Ben was a marine and Nova was in her last year of training to be a flying medic this wasn't the first time they had both been away from home at the same time but it was still hard for them all. For Leio it was hardest of all not seeing Ben as they had been very close even sharing a room for a while though now there was the basement for the older two when home.

After a hour they were packed and on the road to White Reige Bay the local fishing and seaside town though small it was perfect for the party as it was only a 30 minute or so drive from their town. Plus the kids grandparents and two sets of aunt, uncles and cousins lived in the bay so were in easy reach. As their little blue car pulled into the beach carpark three young children came racing over from the playground followed more slowly by a pair of older woman one walking with crutches, the other with a cane. "Nana Maye, Aunt Kierri!!!! Jack, Ollie, Serah!!" shouted Leio and Emile as they scrambled out

Comp 2:

The wind howled loudly, the sound creeping in through my ears, vibrating its way to my trembling brain. My mother whispered comforts as we huddled together. Alone in the basement. The hurricane wreaking havoc through the peaceful town I called my home. For it is all gone, erased. And never shall it be as it was again. These thoughts kept running through my head. How unfair it was. How nobody got a warning. How everything I ever knew was ripped from me in such a short amount of time. The sky was pouring down its tears, almost like sympathy for the pathetic form of myself. And I cried too, along with my mother and half the state.

I noticed the storm quieting down. Suddenly, I became more terrified. I did not want to come out. I dont want to see the damage and destruction. My house couldnt be destroyed. All the memories of my mother, my father and even myself. Mother slowly stood up, grabbing my hand and asking if I was alright. I nodded silently, barely processing the words. She walked forward towards the door, hesitantly pushing I forward. It wouldnt budge. She pushed harder. Still nothing. She called me over to help her, I walked slowly, dreading the sight of the interior. If it still existed, that is. Together we shoulder barged the door and after a long creak, it opened a fraction. Dust and rubble poured through ear as we continued to push. Finally the door opened fully and we were met with piles of debris. I stared at my house and my mind shut itself down. It was gone, all gone. The wreckage spread everywhere. My mother turned me around and pulled me into a tight embrace as I sobbed. The image of everything I loved in tatters.

6 months later

I woke up to my mother, leaning over me, smiling and wishing me a happy birthday. I grinned back, sitting up and throwing a blanket around my shoulders. I walked down the small hallway of the apartment. I reached the kitchen and my nose met the delicious smell of cooking pancakes. My mother and I scoffed down the meal. I began to buzz in excitement, my mother had promised me an amazing present, and I wanted to open it.

I was loaded in the car, making me a bit confused. We drove for a merry half hour until we reached a place I was all too familiar with. Home. My town was looking much better, but still, the reconstruction process was not quite there yet. My heart aches for the place I once knew. Mother told me to close my eyes. We drove for a further 5 minutes and then she parked. I attempted to sneak a peak, but she caught me in the act and gave my shoulder a playful slap. She helped me out of the car, one of her hands over my eyes. She steered me in a direction, walking straight for a few moments. Then she stopped and took her hand off my face. I opened my eyes. A few tears slipped down my face as I stared at my house. Completely rebuild. Perfect, the exact way it had been. I walked to the door, feeling everything I could. Trying to familiarise myself with old memories. I placed my hand on the door knob, hesitantly turning back to face mother. She nodded encouragingly. I used some pressure and pushed it open. I was finally home again. This was the best present anyone can ever get.

The First Birthday



Winter strolled through the grand halls of the palace, muttering curses at the dreadful shoes and wretched dress she was forced to wear. It felt like clamps on her feet, and the gown! No matter how 'pretty' it was, the blasted thing was like a tent, but with less room for her legs.

The sound of laughter, music and general merriment caused her to pause. She was very near the banquet hall. It was true that she had expected no invitation, and that she didn't want to attend the perfect Princess Hope's birthday celebration. But it did sting a bit when no one asked her to come.

With a disgruntled humph, she continued her march. Why should she care? Its not like she was the strongest and most loyal fracture of Hope's soul, anyway! Its not like she already saved Hope - five times? Or was it six, now? Either way, she had protected the ungrateful snot from certain death multiple times. And not even a "Gee, thanks." Not that Winter needed one. But it certainly wouldn't have hurt to say!

Storming into her chambers, she stomped straight out onto her balcony. After pacing around for a bit, she grabbed onto the railing and sighed.

"Its not like we all share a birthday." She sarcastically hissed under her breath as she leaned out to get a better look at the darkening landscape. The sun was beginning to set, but the festivities would continue into the night.

The horizon was bathed in orange and pink, and she knew that the stars were making their appearance on the other side of the castle. The trees stirred in the summer breeze, and the flowers danced beneath them. The lights of candles began to fill the homes below, and the voices of mothers calling their children could be heard.

It was so different from her homeland.

Her home was dark and cold. It seemed as though the clouds never departed the sky. The people never seemed to celebrate, the children found no reason to play. It was as though the land existed solely to breed warriors. And, strange as it sounded, even to Winter, herself, she wished for nothing more then to return there.

Shaking her head to rid herself of the homesickness, she walked back into her room, kicking off her shoes as she went. Just as she freed her left foot from its fancy bindings and began fiddling with her dress, someone decided to prolong her suffering by knocking on her door.

Marching to the door, she threw it open, causing the other woman to squeak pitifully in fear.

"Autumn?" Winter started, wondering why the aforementioned other was here. "Why aren't you at-"

"Hide. Me!" Autumn demanded as she pushed into the room and jumped onto the bed, landing face first and showing no signs of moving.

Winter stood at the door, staring into the spot her only friend once stood in. "No, of course you can come in! Make yourself at home! My place is your place!" She said as she slammed the door shut. Not out of anger. That was just how she normally closed doors. "Mind telling me what I'm hiding you from?" She said as she hopped onto the bed.

"People!" The auburn-haired girl said as she shot her head up to speak and breathe. Rolling over onto her back she continued. "I spent three hours at that party, and do know how many people talked to?" She paused, but before Winter could say anything, she said, "I don't know! There were so many! I can't handle people talking to me! Or making eye-contact! So. Much. Eye-contact!"

She rolled back over as Winter started. "You know, most people would consider that a good thing."

Autumn looked up at her skeptically. "Do you?"

"No, absolutely not." She said, shaking her head as she did. "Why do you think I avoid Spring at all costs?"

The rhetorical question evoked a little giggle from the dramatic little lady as she pulled herself into a seated position. After a moment of silence, Autumn spoke again. "I heard you didn't get invited. Sorry."

"Doesn't matter to me. I wouldn't have went anyway."

She sighed. "I wish you and Hope could get along. But I guess its because you're so similar that you can't."

"Ha!" Winter scoffed. "She just wishes she could be like me!"

Autumn giggled again. "Why do I believe that isn't the case?" That earned a small smile from the usually angry woman. "Come on," She started as she hopped off the bed and grabbed Winter's hand. "You haven't eaten anything yet, have you? Let's raid the kitchen!"

"And haven't you already eaten enough? At the party?" Though she allowed herself to be pulled along.

"In front of so many people? No way!" The little woman declared, as she threw open the door and lead her friend to the kitchens. They, technically, weren't supposed to be in the kitchens, but they could travel the castle freely, so no one could throw them out.

The air itself was a feast! Chicken, Pork, Lamb. There were fruits and vegetables. The pastries were just being pulled from the ovens. And platters were being hauled back from the banquet hall, not enough food remaining on them to serve the guests with, but still not emptied. That looked to be the best place to start.

Winter grabbed two of these platters. One had once been occupied by a whole roast pig, the other by various berries.

As the two of them took their seats in the corner, a servant girl came up with a tray containing a few fresh pastries: Tortes, Dumplings, and even a couple slices from a Charlotte. Setting the tray down, she gave a curtsy and hurried back to her work.

"You know?" Winter started, grabbing her companions attention. "This is the first time I've celebrated my birthday with a feast or a friend."

Looking over, Autumn was smiling. "Happy Birthday, Winter."

Pausing for a moment to let that sink in, the taller woman turned away as she cleared her throat and rubbed at her left her eye. "Y-Yeah thanks!" She said, trying to retain her tough demeanor. "Happy Birthday to you, too." Autumn stifled a giggle. "Now lets dig in already!"

"Sounds like a plan to me!" Her friend replied cheerfully.

(Sorry if it doesn't make much sense. The characters are from an original story of mine. It was all I could think up.)

Short Story(It's a bit long, sorry bout that)

"Come on sleepy head, wake up!" Tara's brother, Peirce, said as he shook her awake."Nooooooooo, leave me be." Tara moaned in protest as she buried herself even deeper into her blankets."Fine but don't blame me if I drop you." Smirked Peirce. He then scooped her up in her blanket while she flailed around and carried her downsatirs. "See that wasn't so bad." Perice said after he dumped Tara in the middle of the kitchen, "You even managed to hit me a couple of times." He added as he examined the forming bruises on his arms and cheek. " Why did you wake me up so early." Complained Tara as she untangled herself from the bundle of blankets. "Are you serious? It's your Birth Day!" Exclaimed Peirce. "Oh ya! So what did you get me?" Asked Tara mischeviously. " We'll give you your presents after you eat breakfast." Answered Peirce. And at that moment Tara's parents walked into the room smiling holding big plates full of bacon, eggs, pancakes, and syrup. "YAAAASSS!!!" Shreiked Tara as she grabbed a plate from her dad's hand, sat down and started stuffing her face with as much food as she could fit. She managed to mumble a "thank you" with her cheeks filled with pancakes like a chipmunk. After they all finished and put the plates away they gathered around the table which was now overflowing with presents. Tara started ripping open the presents and unrapping gifts. But she didn't find anything inside any of the presents. "Ummmmmm... What's going on?" Asked Tara anxiously. Her family exchanged a weird look , then Peirce quietly left the kitchen into the garage. "Mom? Dad? What's happening?" Tara asked again with even more worry in her voice. Then Peirce came in again holding a large box. "Well we kinda wanted to suprise you." Said Peirce as he set the box down. Tara slowly edged torwards the box as her family grinned mischeviously. She carefully opened the box to see three tiny gold puppies staring back at her with big, black, curious eyes. They yapped and squirmed as Tara stared at them with tears welling in her eyes. Finally she reached down and pulled them out one by one. She noticed they're collars; Chase, Bently, and Poppy. They licked and yapped as they clambered onto Tara's lap. She cried tears of joy as she hugged the new members of the family.
