Downtime Begins: 2/9 @ 10pm
Downtime Length: 2-3 Hours

At 10pm tonight, our server will be going offline for a hardware upgrade.

We are adding a 5th drive to our server and it requires upgrading to a bigger chassis. We will be using this 5th drive solely to save compiled avatar and pet images for much faster serving for everyone.

I have switched over a majority of images to function this way this past week, but it's quickly filling up our current disk space and we need a large dedicated disk to really handle this properly.

This upgrade will allow us to save compiled avatars and pet images for a really long time and greatly, greatly reduce both the amount of work the server needs to spend compiling images and also the amount of time players need to wait on images always compiling.

So, should be a good upgrade all around. =)

Is there any information I might be at risk of losing? Sorry if this is a weird question, but computers can be glitchy,

(Cough here comes a grammar nazi cough)

What she means is that Krin and Fai are always extra careful and that they have backup drives. It's extremely unlikely that anything will be lost, but if anything is, they can fix it.

With any maintenance, or even just the passing of time, the risk of loss is always there. I don't think this specific maintenance is more risky than just an average day of use, though. They'll simply be taking our hardware and taking it out of our current chassis (or tower) and putting it into a larger one with more drive bays.

As AliceHearts said though, we backup our data multiple times per day and we use multiple backup methods to store our data in case one method fails.

If such an occasion occurred, which hopefully it never will, players would lose maybe a few hours, or at most a few days, of data.

But I do not think that there is anything to be concerned about at all. =)

With the downtime, is Week of Love still going ahead as planned on the 10th? I could be patient and just wait but I'm too excited!

So I had to ask >.<
Thanks!

Yep. It shouldn't affect anything.

I am still planning on the events beginning at noon tomorrow.

I will post the details as soon as I can - probably at some point overnight or early tomorrow morning.
