Just that acute, highly observing stare that made her shiver.. Her hand shook as she reached for her pocket but she completed the action nonetheless, slowly sliding the dagger into the open and holding it up to the sunlight, glinting.

He roared once more, but this time, it wasn't to be fierce. It was in fear. He began thrashing and struggling again.

The dagger clattered on the ground.

(the monster)

Wet. the world was wet.
They had never seen the sunshine, never known the caress of wind through their webbed wings. All they knew was darkness, cold, and wet.

The beast's wings expanded, an appearance that looks like a being only seen in the worst of nightmares. It flew about the treacherous mountains in which it lived.

You see a small creature that looks mournful. It sits in the darkness of a cave, it's been alone all its life. Shadows surrounded it and its eyes gazed into the abyss.

They remain completely silent, motionless, their eyes fixed upon some far point of time and space unseen by any others. They knew what was coming. They'd seen the signs before. But their warning had been dismissed as the superstitions of an old, blind, wanderer.
They wouldn't be able to prevent it this time.
