So, as many of you are aware of, we had another database issue today. Unfortunately, this issue led to multiple other issues...
Around 1pm CST, our server restarted itself for an unknown reason (host is investigating why this happened). This caused our database files to become corrupt because the plug was pulled in the middle of operation. Once corrupted, the specific tables inside the database can crash. When that happens, data from inside those crashed tables can become deleted. And that's what happened to start.
Once we took the site offline to repair the damage, we found out that there has been an issue with our backups over the past few days which has prevented any real backups from taking place and the latest 'good' backup was from Friday morning.
Going to the backup's backup (which is done weekly on Mondays), it too malfunctioned and did not properly back up our database in its latest run.
So we, very frustratingly, were stuck with restoring data from a backup from Friday, July 10th. =(
I cannot apologize enough for this as we felt fairly confident in running hourly backups, daily backups, weekly backups, and then a completely separate backup as a backup to our backups! But apparently, it still wasn't enough.
The worst part of this is that about 650 pets were lost from the initial table crash. However, 450 of those pets were created after Friday's backup. This means that they are more or less lost forever and completely unrecoverable.
Doing some deduction, I was able to determine that about 400 of the 450 lost pets were bred pets so I just simply "tossed" them out. They will no longer exist and cannot be recovered. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT ONE OF YOUR PETS WAS LOST AND YOU HAD SPENT GOLD ON IT OR USED A PHILTER ON IT - SEND ME A PM! I can track this via other tables and reimburse you.
For the remaining 50 or so lost pets, they were already in players' stables. Thus I have restored these pets as best as I could and they are now all Tamed Male Qitari. These pets were either Generated Pets or Caught Pets. IF YOU OWN ONE OF THESE PETS - SEND ME A PM WITH WHAT IT USED TO BE AND I WILL FIX IT FOR YOU!
Additionally, all battles were removed. So if you were in a battle prior to downtime, you no longer are.
Lastly, 9 players were rolled back. If you were one of these players and were noticeably rolled back, send me a PM with the details.
