As you make your way toward the center of Perell, dodging the steadily increasing flow of people passing by you on the streets, the town comes into glaringly bright focus. Squinting against the light of the countless lamps hanging in windows and the streets, you head into the crowd.
Within moments, you're surrounded by people hurrying one way or another, some residents of Perell and others travelers passing through, as is evident from their somewhat disheveled appearances and hefty satchels. Most seem to be heading away from the center of town, either hurrying home or to an inn to spend the night. Several times, the jostling from the crowd threatens to reveal your ears and tail from where you've attempted to conceal them, but nobody spares you more than a passing glance--fortunately for you, such features aren't uncommon in Phenomenal beings, so you wouldn't look too out of the ordinary even if you weren't hiding them. Still, better to be safe than sorry.
While you walk, you pick up snippets of conversation from all around you: the usual town chatter, made ever more interesting by the rumors brought by those passing by from faraway lands.
"Have you heard the news? The mayor's son over in Delora was cursed--"
"The Line'll get word to him soon enough, no use worrying about it anymore--"
"--crafted in Hanne, the highest quality you'll find around--"
"--the merchants there have taken up selling protective amulets. A scam if I've ever heard one--"
"They say it's dangerous; the roads have been closed off for weeks and still no sign--"
The majority of the businesses, mostly buildings and a handful of roadside stalls, seem to be preparing to close, but some remain open for various reasons--travelers can arrive at any time, you're not the only nocturnal being in Perell, and of course the post office here never closes. The amount of inns outnumber the stores, but you pass by a stall displaying an impressive array deadly-looking weapons, a bakery selling extravagant (and probably ridiculously expensive) pastries, and what appears to be a bookstore with brightly colored flowers lining its windows, to name a few that catch your eye. However, the majority of businesses cater to travelers, selling simple food that doesn't spoil, medical supplies, tools such as axes and snares, and a few more expensive items like compasses and high-quality leather packs.
Suddenly, there's a shout and a clattering of hoofbeats as the crowd hurriedly parts to make way for a rider on a horse--no doubt one of the runners for the Albatross Line. Despite the late hour, the Line is famous for its efficiency, and that means having shifts of riders to carry messages one the way to their destinations at all times.
Freya was startled to say the least. She leapt back to let the horse and rider pass through. She decided that she wanted to keep looking, even if she couldnt afford to buy anything.
He visibly perks up at your answer, but fidgets nervously before speaking. "If... if it's not too much trouble for you, would you mind stopping by the apothecary on your way? My ma's fallen a bit ill, and I'm not allowed to go into town by myself. I'll... I'll give you the payment and all."
(When you try to leave but get harassed by little kids)
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Of course I can- what exactly do you need?" It's a bit of a dent in her plans, but really, she doesn't exactly have anything planned. Besides, it's the least she can do, be a good neighbor and all and keep good impressions.
And hey, payment. As long as the kid keeps his end of the deal, a little extra pocket money wouldn't hurt. Right??? RIght???

The boy lights up, seeming relieved that you agreed. "Thank you so much, miss! It's just a cold, she ought to be fine in a few days with the proper remedy. ...That's what she told me, anyways." He scrounges around in his pockets and eventually produces a crumpled sheet of paper with a list in messy handwriting scrawled on it--presumably the medicines and ingredients needed from the apothecary--and squints at it before giving up trying to read it and just handing it to you.
"My ma said to just give this to the apothecary, and they'll prepare everything for you. Oh, and you'll need this too--" he digs in his pockets some more before dropping five silver coins in your hand--"that should be plenty enough to pay for all of it, and you can keep the rest."

The crowd quickly returns to its normal state--such a disturbance is in fact a normal occurrence in town, though you don't go into town much--and you continue browsing. Speaking of horses, you see a stall selling what appears to be riding gear, including not only saddles for horses but ones for...well, you can't exactly tell what creature they're meant to fit. Farther on, from inside a short brick building, you hear the sound of clanging, perhaps that of a blacksmith working? Across from it on the street, is a stall selling talismans and various enchanted items to hang around one's home, most likely to bring good luck, prevent spirits from causing mischief, or similar reasons. And, although Perell doesn't have a train station, the nearest one isn't more than a half day's journey on foot, and you spy a man on the street with a cart offering to take people there in half the time.

She puts back on a brave face. How are they all just. . . used to this by now? So many horrible things could have happened if that horse had hit somebody. With the various scenarios in her head, she decides to start walking out of town now. She had been wasting enough time there.

"Sounds good, I'll be back once I get the medicine." Livvy agrees, before waving a goodbye and starting on her way.
Hopefully the apothecary has everything in stock. That would be a pain otherwise. She really hopes it's not like one of those sidequests in books where someone has to find something for someone else to get something to give back to person #1.

You turn and begin to head out of town the way you came...just in time to get caught up with the majority of the foot traffic leaving the same way. Once again, you have to dodge and weave to avoid getting bumped into, but as you reach the edge of the town center, the crowd finally begins to disperse. By the time you reach your house, near the outskirts of Perell, the streets are nearly empty.
This far away from the center of town, there are just a couple of houses scattered far apart. Not far in the distance, you can see the very edge of Perell, where even these few buildings give way to a vast expanse of open, dry grassland. Down the road, the cobblestone will gradually turn to hard-packed earth, beaten down by countless feet and hooves. Some of the bigger towns along the Albatross Line have proper roads connecting them, but the path here still makes it infinitely easier to travel and not lose your way.
To your left lies the comfort and safety of your house, but ahead of you the world opens up. Where do you wish to go?

She sighs, trying to harden her resolve before turning back towards the world. You are an adventurer now, act like it. It wasnt like the path itself was going to kill her. She just had to start walking towards it first.
