(My phone hated me for two seconds. I hate that I have to quit Firefox just to get the keyboard to work. It's my phone's fault.)
First of all, this needs to not be dead.
Second of all, for all of you who are participating in NaNoWriMo, November is fast approaching.
On the subject of NaNoWriMo, I don't know which story idea I should go with. Should I go with Death or my duo? Death would be fun, but my duo is fresh in my mind.
Hmm. Decisions.
On the other hand, how many of y'all participate in NaNoWriMo? This is my first year. If you don't participate, do you dislike the event in general?
Hope you don't mind being pinged again by me.
Also, Lark, the Death idea has to do with Death and his Reapers. You shall be my first beta reader if I decide to write about that for NaNoWriMo.

I don't really like it - even though I'm kind of a hypocrite and wrote my 75K novel in 2 months lol. You shouldn't force yourself to write to meet a quota - you should write because you want to and have ideas. It puts emphasis on quantity over quality, which is never a good thing in writing. Time constraints put a damper on creativity, and your once-hobby becomes a stressful task.
This is also why I don't participate in Inktober or Artober or whatever have you - even though I probably produce 30+ sketches/pieces in a month, adhering to a schedule only makes it stressful and less enjoyable for me.

National Novel Writing Month. Basically, a participate has to write 50k words in a month.

Who else over-researches when writing fanfiction?
I'm writing some Star Wars stuff at the moment and lemme tell you. I literally spent an hour on Wookiepedia 1) reading the article I was looking for 2) going 'ooh, this looks interesting' (resulting in 25 tabs and an exploded CPU) 3) forgetting why I went there in the first place.
It's like reverse wikipedia racing. Except I get lost and confused and never make it out alive.
Like I'll be writing and think 'hey this sounds neat but can I use it??' And I *have* to check canon/legends to make sure I can, and then it becomes a struggle as to whether I want this strictly canon, or a mix of canon and legends... it's a right mess. But hey! I get to outsmart my dad and brother with obscure star wars knowledge!
What are your tales of falling down research rabbit holes?

Lol I do this for everything, essays for classes, the meanings of words, I also have a tendency to try and find names that have a specific meaning and will spend hours looking up different names that I didn't even think would really exist (I type in random things that sound pretty enough to be names, like Miani or Solis, then search up "name meaning"). I spend more time researching than writing.
On one of my stories I used this old Filipino legend called the Tiktik or the Aswang, for one of my stories and honestly there was such a jumble of tabs open that I don't even remember what facts are accurate and which are incorrect or varied fron the original legend.

Right?? Researching is half the fun xD My creation of names is one of two things: english words (see: Light) or keysmashes then making names (see: Ahje). <- pronounced AH-zhe, accidental misspelling of ashe
Another naming instance I'm proud of myself for is the naming of one of my worlds: Aberra. I ended up just taking the first half of aberration - y'know, cause humans don't like demons and think they're, well, aberrations. hehe
I don't care enough for essays for school unfortunately. xD 'sounds about right? okay. Cool.'
