Akira was running an effort to beat him to whoever was yelling at her.

Lillian had walked into the room and found Ulima dusting. She had already forgotten what she had to do and wondered off, this time it not coming back to her. She had quietly made her way up to the girl and was now beside her. "Ulima, do you need any help? I forgot what I was supposed to do again." She had spoke softly, instead of how the others usually sounded. She was more of quiet type, not really ever making much noise.

Unfortunately for Akira his long strides where superior and he got to the wretched old woman first. "I called for Akira, not you, Mason." , She scolded glaring up at him. When she saw the girl she scowled.

Elliott was folding sheets and making the beds in all of the girls' rooms. Make the beds, Elliott. Do the laundry, Elliott. Grind the corn, Elliott. Dust the fan, Elliott. Sweep the corners, Elliott. She mocked the little voice nagging inside her head as her OCD began to kick in. The slight curve of the cuts made it nearly impossible to get the thin sheets perfectly neat. Giving up on her charge, she instead flopped heavily down onto the nearest cot. What a life.

"I'm s-sorry, Mistress Lawson," Akira stuttered.
"'Sorry' won't get the dishes washed, girl," sneered the woman, raising her cane to hit Akira
And punishing me won't get Joanna cured of the chicken pox, thought Akira, as the cane fell.

"It's my fault, Akira would have them done by now if I didn't bother her." , He intervened.

"It's always your fault, when will you learn from your mistakes, you stupid boy!" , She yelled hitting him in the head with her cane, hard. He stumbled into a table holding his head. "Now, Akira, go get the dishes done or the same will happen to you." , She said sternly. Mason stood straight again after she walked away to yell at someone else. He looked at his hand.

Akira staggered off to wash the dishes, her shoulder still aching from the blow. "Sorry I got you dragged into this," she mumbled.

"I've gotten worse." , He replied, recalling the hot poker in the side the night before. He put his hand down, ignoring the pain in his forehead. He began to mop the floor, silently.
