I dash away, looking for a place to hide or a way to lose it.

Ahead you see a cave in the rocky landscape ahead of you. The terrain to get there was rocky and looked not stable.

I decide it looks too dangerous and see what's in the other direction and check how close the monster is.

The monster was closing in fast. It was too dark to recognize anything but you realized you had a few seconds before it would overtake you. The other direction was a dense forest, but in the road was a knocked over tree.
