He watched her go prancing into the water like it was going to be a stroll down to the shelf edge for a sardine picnic. He smiled and lowered his head slightily shaking it while Kanakwella wasn't looking. He then tilted his head to Aleria. "Are you coming Lady Swifthorn?" He asked, and started trotting into the lake after Princess Kanakwella.

Grim Rose floated. "What is wrong with you all?" Grim Rose asked. "At least I don't have to worry about feelings like yours." Grim Rose laughed and stopped floating onto the ground. She sat down.

There was a lot to teach Kanakwella in a little bit of time, but Mermydon was patient with her while Aleria went out and started scouting out a school she thought they could control. He started by teaching her how to gulp air just under the water's surface, so water could pass over her gills while still allowing her to fill her gas lung. Then he showed her how to purse her lips only so much to create the right trail of bubbles. He swam a wide circle so that she could see how as the bubbles rose they created the sense of a large predator beneath and the bubbles effectively surround a small school of fish. It was their first trouble spot, not because Kanakwella didn't learn well, but her gas lung was smaller than his and less developed, so she wasn't used to using it underwater and had a little trouble creating a complete circle. They circled each other, one clockwise, the other counter clockwise but each time she fell short of the complete circle. Finally after about five tries, he met her halfway, used his hooves to square her shoulders, then placed his lips and tongue against hers to form a seal and blow some of his air into her gas lung, then they completed the circle. He practiced that with her three times so they could cut down on bubble stop time as they shared breath. He assured her it would get easier as they came to the surface and as she matured she would be able to bubble net completely.
He then showed her good fan-netting techniques, to be able to bat fish back into their ball and be able to control her position in the water column. That was much easier for her to pick up since it was something she already used. Mermydon made bubbles for her to practice keeping inside a set circle. That was when she learned how much work this was really going to be. Pump too hard and she pushed the bubbles way out of the circle. So she had to learn to flap, turn, ambush-dive and come back up to flap again. She finally understood that the energy from one flap will take it out of another flap.
All the while Mermydon would share with her stories about himself and tried encouraging her to share something about herself, as they related to what they were doing, or something like it. By the time Aleria returned with her report on their quarry, Kanakwella was ready to put it all into practice.

The lake water was so cool and fresh this morning, it had a nip in it that suggested that winter air would fast come flowing off the cascades and forcing water-folk downstream or down below in the following week or two. Mermydon would've been thankful for the reprieve. He would be able to settle into his ready made nest under the falls and let the whole winter go by. Let those silly over-dwellers go throwing paws full of snow and skating within inches of danger atop the lake. And the fish! Oh how sluggish the fish in the lake got with the cold, it wasn't even a hunt, it was like going to market they were so easy to catch. Then Kanakwella starting gulping air and making that suction noise on the surface that broke him from his little daydream. She was doing okay, so he starting gulping air next to her. Aleria had already gone back to chase the school up to them! As if on cue from Heroine's request, they both heard some strange slurping noises coming off the surface of the lake. When they finally located it, she could see the tops of a purple and a turquoise muzzle rising and dipping at the surface. But Heroine wasn't alone at listening to the strange sound. For it was like ringing a dinner bell for a little someone hiding in the reeds just waiting for breakfast to come ashore... Timing was good, no sooner had Mermydon and Kanakwella filled their gas lungs than they sow a curtain of bubbles rising over the shelf. It was Aleria Swifthorn's signal, the same one they used the other day, that she was coming up with a school of fish. The two kelparie rushed to the shelf and were only a little behind there expected time table. A goodly school of fishes came up and over the shelf and tried to split between the two kelparie, who immediately spread their fins wide to bloke the splitting path and forcing the fish to go up! Aleria's bubbles spooked them into not going back the way they came and Mermydon and Kanakwella began bubble netting to keep too many of the school from slipping away. All the while Aleria went to refill her gas lung and switch out with the one that was nearly out of air. After a few turns of switching out to gulp more air, they started fin-netting to compress the school into a virtual fish ball. A lot of fish escaped but there were three times more than any of them could eat still balled up! It was long, tiring work, but the crisp, cool feel of the surface was at first rejuvenating as they smacked the ball back, forth and below to get it to where they wanted it near shore.
The kelparie were taking a few turns at the fish ball as it was coming in, the glorious feel of the catch in open water was good for the soul. As they got closer and had to surface, water began spewing out of their gill plates enough that they could freely talk in air. "To the shore everyone and take your fill!" the prince announced.

Grim Rose took a fish and started eating. "This the best you can get." Grim Rose said sarcastically. In reality she really like the fish but she didn't want them to know.

Aleria helped keep the ball on the shore, she speared one with her horn to kill it shook it off her horn then ate it. She wiped off the bit of blood and gore off her horn and face right after swallowing, "Glad to see you up and about Grim." she said then smiled at her. "I am suprized we have not encountered any humans, we better get going before our luck runs out. It could just be that no human needed to be in this area they usely seem to only be in areas that they need to be in but either way, we do not want to risk encountering one. They kill everything in their path or keep it for them selves either one was bad news for us." she had said that mostly for Kanakwella she was maybe the only on that has not met a human before.
