She picked up the pebble examining it before turning her head slightly to the side to get a glimpse at what ever decided to kick this pebble

He stares at you with a blank face. "You. . .you do understand there is literally nothing to have me trust you here, right?"

He closes the door a little. "Last time I. . .let someone in, they let me know Itami. And now I know for a fact nothing lives within fathoms of this place."

Rin's heart sinks. "Ah, jeez." He turns and waves nervously. "Uh, well, goodbye then. I'd better get going." Well, that's just great. What am I to do now?

Something quickly scampers away into a thin patch of brush. All you can really see is ginger fur, but you can hear it whimpering. It's a small fox pup.

"Wait - "

He fumbles after you, nearly tripping. "Come in. Even if you hurt me, please. If you were Itami, you would've just taken me where I stood."

He smiles, clearly anxious. Now that you're closer to him, you can see something wrong with his eyes.

He's broken.

Rin swallows hard. Should I leave him behind or stay here? I don't have much of a chance either way....
Rin turns back to face the man and bows his head in submission. "Alright," he says meekly.

The pup yips at you, clearly trying to make a display of courage. It backs further into the brush slowly.
