He flicks his right hand at a small plant growing out of a crack in the stone. Nothing happens. "Wait a sec, it'll work." The Elf flicks his wrist again. The plant stays same as ever. "Right, I forgot. They put some sort of stuff in our food that prevents our magic from working." He shrugs. "Guess I can't help."
I frown at him. "Well, why don't we just... not eat for a bit? And how do you know all of this? Were they blabbing some more?"

"Less murderous? Isn't that good? Oh wait, I think i know what you mean... They won't come back for a while though, only everyday to bring us food." His face suddenly lights up. "Did you eat anything yet? Maybe you still have your powers!" He shoves his hands into the pockets of his jacket. "Oh right, I don't have my notebook. I'll have to remember it then. Could you show me what you can do?"

(Did you know that pandas used to be carnivores? They have to eat a lot because their digestive systems are made for eating meat, not for eating plants. Nobody knows why they stopped being carnivores and started being herbivores, but there are some guesses.)
(Pandas also used to be used in war because they were so vicious.)
