After nurturing a few pets I later went to my inventory. It seemed like I have randomly received a regular Aeridini essence when there was no message in the Nurturing grounds. Do they just place the essence in your inventory after nurturing? I am 100% sure that I never accepted a trade with it.

Yes, the essence just appears in your inventory from nurturing, no trades.

Do they not say any message anymore? I used to get essences when the nurturing grounds didnt exist yet-and they always say something. (I cant copy and paste it atm, but it says something like A light engulfs you, you received [Regular Nephini essence] x1)

Since the nurturing grounds update, messages for essences (as well as things like fest currency) appear quietly in the same box that tracks scales earned.
