I need to be able to listen to other apps, how do I turn off the sylestia background?

Are you talking about the music when battling? There is a button on the bottom right corner, that looks like this: click it and the sound it mute.

If you're on a computer, you could mute the site.
If you're on mobile, I can't help you.

In the grove, in the lower left-hand corner you should see an option to Click for Volume Controls. There you can mute the music and sound effects.
