General outline:
Spoilers ahead
Wth I did not expect any of that. beyond book 1
So basically, for the first book, it's in Nicote/Newtmores' POVs. They're 10.
Nicote is found by Newt and Newt takes him as his kusave (basically, a personal servant but I never say that directly). Newt introduces him to the Marker-Powells' weird way of life (includes being formal while being unformal, constant fighting while being bffs with each other, and so forth). At the same time, Owen and Nanita realize that they've seen Nicote before, but the details are all fuzzy. No one else really remembers anything, but Newtmore starts looking into Nicote's mysterious background because Nicote's a disinherited noble but doesn't know who his family lineage is from. Over the course of the book, stuff gets revealed such as Dillagrio Marker's little "secret mistress", who is actually the perfectly biologicaly legal mother of two of the Powell kids, and Dillagrio is realized to be an incredibly bad guy. At the same time, members of the family are having strange dreams, flashbacks involving Nicote and themselves, and secrets are revealed. Newt can't figure out anything, though, but one day Nicote walks in on him doing research, and figures everything out a few days later. But he doesn't tell anyone, in fear it would start a war (which wouldn't be surprising). But somehow a journalist found out and publishes a story about the illegitimate happenings, and Nicote runs away into the forest that no one likes to go into due to how wild it is. Newt finally figures it out, but it's too late, as a war started anyways and both sides are hunting down Nicote. End of book 1.
Book two: Meinke and Mateo are sent to Floradale, where the fighting isn't as bad. They end up moving in with the Marker-Powells, in hpopes of fixing the rifts brought about by Dillagrio Marker and Hosan Xandori. But Meinke and Mateo aren't on the best of terms with each other either, so that doesn't help. Newt is still beating himself up over losing Nicote (again). Nanita takes a little "field trip" to the edge of the forest a few times in secret, and on a few occasions sees someone. But they always disappear before she fcan get close enough hto see who it is, and she always turns back., sometimes leaving thing slike a jacket or some food behind just in case it's Nicote. Eventually Merriment (Christmas) comes around, and it's been a full year, so the searches are called off, since one year - usually dead. Nani and Newt are devastated, but try to make the most of it, while Meinke and Mateo finally reunite. Sort of. End of book 2
Book three: It's been 3 years since the war began and Nicote left, and things aren't looking good for anyone. MThe wa is draggin on and everyone's tiring, but enemies are comign that no one's seen before. Then one day she's taking her horse out for a run with Meinke and Cat and while they take a break, and then Nani looks into the forest and sees Nicote, and he's fighting against some large creature I haven't decided on yet. Cat goes back to get help while Nani and Meinke go to help Nicote. The creature is defeated, Nicote's leg is ruined, Meinke's powers are exhausted, and Nani is fatally wounded. A few of the other family members come, and Nicote insist on taking Nani back himself, as he's the reason why she kept being so reckless. She dies a week later, after a surgery fails and Nicote blames himself. But this time, he doesn't run off because of Newt and Meinke. The book is the shortest, and ends with Nani's funeral, and Nicote vowing revenge on the enemy.
Book four: A year on, the Powell twins are exploring the cave where Newt found Nicote when they discover a set of scrolls that could change the outcome of the war, and end it once and for all. Meinke's powers are slowly returning but not completely (Mateo iwas overjoyed for a while, as he doesn't have to worry if Meinke's holding onto him in a deathgrip) and Nicote and Jade's little "romance" is failing horribly. Al's off in the military, and Mina's in the First Aid Services, and Sir Marker is busy with everything else, so the twins don't know who to go to. Then word hits that the King has been assassinated, and all hell breaks loose. Orkha and Cat decide to go off and find the long-lost Cresthearse lineage, the only ones that are suitable for the royal throne due to their bloodline. Along the way, they meet a teen by the nickname ofCaleb, and realize that he is a Cresthearse. They bring him back to the Manor, but eveyrone has left for the capital, except for one person, Nicote, who cannot fight due to his injured leg. THe younger members of the family are there as well. They persuade Nicote to take them to the capital with his shadow realm powers, and he consents, leaving Orkha to deal with the ones at home and taking Cat and Caleb, as well as the scrolls. e collapses upon getting there, as it took too much effort, and Cat races Caleb to the Seat of Power, where the enemy, led by Therios Hightower, is waiting. A fierce battle later, Caterina is dead, Caleb is on the throne, and the Cresthearses come out of hiding. The abnormally long book ends with Cat's funeral, Nico being revived (yes he knocked himself out again and was hit by a spell of sleep) and when a girl he met while wandering the forest comes to see him, she trips over and accidently kisses him, waking him up and grossing both of them out. End of book 4
Book 5: The war is dying down, and Caleb's on the throne...and doing an absoluate ggrand job of racking up bills for painkillers for his headaches (from the amount of work to be done). Sir Marker is assistint him, as are the Xandoris. Caleb wants tho redo the entire social order of the country, because that's what makes wars keep happening, and mak everyone equal. To start off, he maries a Dark -element that he's been dating. Meanwhile, Nicote is still grieving over his past mistakes and life, but is slowly warming up to Aria (lala yes this is Astra but obviously i'm not gonna steal your OC completely) and is slowly coming to terms with the fact that not everything can be avenged. Orkha, meanwhile, is upset over te loss of Cat, and has dyed purple streaks in her hair as well as blue streaks from before. She's started spending time with a village girl who volunteers at the library, Catherine Warrington, and the two start bonding, with Catherine taking Cat's place in giving Orkha someone to talk to (and get homework help from). And...everything else is country reconstruction. End of BOok 5 |
