Honestly, I am trying not to cry right now. Anyone else heard about the fire? It is really, truly awful. I mean... stuff burns down all the time. But the Notre Dame? It is horrible...

Sorry. But does anyone else feel the same way?

I am with you on this one hon. It is truly heart breaking to see this historical treasure that means so much to one and all destroyed like that. They are still investigating what caused the fire. They were able to save some of the artifacts and historical documents, but not much more than that. The roof known as "The Forest" is gone. I watched the video of the spire collapsing and began crying. Even thinking about it gets me choked up. It is a tragic loss. They are talking about rebuilding, but it won't be the same...

Yeah i herd about it from some friends on discord(Since i don't watch the news).It's devastating,cause i really wanted to go there at some point in the future.My parents went recently before they started doing the reno's and have a few pictures.

But i just kept thinking of the scene from the hunchback of notre dame with the scene of lava pouring from the cathedral and the song hellfire from it....and i feel bad for doing so ;n;

But paris is a amazing country that's survived the so much,the reign of fire,the french revolution,Napoleon.
So i shire hope they can fix it,it's mainly the roof and the stained glass,along with repairs.

It may look like mainly the centuries old roof and stain glass...But the fire was a lot worse then just that. The smoke damage is extensive. And they weren't able to save all the art work, relics, historical documents...Only some of them were they able to save. True they be able to rebuild...But it won't be the same.

I'm just amazingly thankful they were doing the repairs and reno at the time - think of what could have been lost had most of the statues and relics not been removed for the construction. It'll never be the same place again, even when they rebuild it. I say WILL, not IF, because it's literally the heart of France and if it isn't... I really hoped to go there one day, and I still want to. But it will never be the same place that everyone in the future will see, including us.

I wonder if it was a spark from the construction? Yes, there was no active construction at the time of the start of the fire, but a spark can smolder unnoticed for hours until it finally catches fire.

Very well could be. A freak accident perhaps.

I watched a live stream of this, and to simply state what everyone else here is saying, it's the worst. As a lover of history, it's really a shame that this beautiful cathedral was destroyed like. Though I am clinging to the fact that France probably won't let the place go unrepaired.

That said, I wonder whay started it? Rennovations?
