They are pets with traits/mutations/ and/or colors that can be changed. Traits and mutations allow you to pick traits and/or mutations using the points listed. 1 point equals a carried trait and 2 points equal a visible traits.
For assigning colors, the only experience I have is with themed pets. Due to their set color scheme, regening them switches their colors to the new color scheme.
