This has been addressed before, and many people will oppose it.
-People release failed project pets, 'cos they don't want the pets but need space. But they also wouldn't want someone else getting a hold of their project.
-Say an inactive user has released some pets. S/he comes back two years later and wants to reclaim a pet... only to find out that someone else has taken it.
-There are probably other reasons people have given that I just can't remember right now.
I would love to get my hands on some old, rare themes that have been released by now-inactive users... but there are so many potential drawbacks to the system that it wouldn't make much sense to implement it.

Oh, you're right, I didn't think of that. So it wasn't a good idea.

I do remember a player suggesting that in the option of releasing pets, add another option to allow other players find the released pet in the wild later on, and i actually quite like that

I wouldnt mind if like there are two options
1) released, only owner can reclaim them ( like now)
2) realesed for others to tame
And the owner can choose which one they want

2 options
a discard option (basically what release does now)
And a release (makes the pet wild)
