I dont believe that it is on purpose but not everyone pays attention to the inbreeding count or the lineage page. Though for the purebred themes it is even more common for inbreeding to occur because of the small breeding pool if you want a purebred. I dont think they try to do that they just dont check or care about the inbreeding count. I mean after the tenth generation it gets hard to check the lineages and tell who is related to who because a lot are un-named.

It's much more efficient for max stat breeding to use a system that involves high levels of inbreeding. Max stat breeding takes at least 9 months for project completion, and it costs a lot to do.

I also found it very useful/necessary to breed pets in such a way when I had to rush breed thousands of pets by a specific deadline.

And as Locknkey pointed out, yes, inbreeding may be necessary if you're trying to breed a specific rare trait into a very rare purebred theme.

It's efficient to do in some cases, and necessary in others. Inbreeding counters do not cause in-game problems...

But it does look messy in the lineage. I know of some people that are very careful about how they breed pets. Generally being careful leads to a clean lineage but progress tends to be slower.

The imbreeding don't affect the pet in any way, it's only a number for people that are interressed to know. It's usualy a good way to know if the pet came from a project or a themme.

For the whole project pet idea, inbreeding is almost unavoideable for those as it start from a few pets. For dye projects, the amount pets you can use for breeding is generaly big enough to avoid the 5% inbreeding but the second you start using essences to make your project you are bound to inbread.

I used to try to avoid this myself way back when I started but starting working on breeding again I find that this is impractical when it comes to trying to breed certain projects. I take comfort in that sylesties are not real and it can't affect offspring negatively. Would I try this with real living breathing animals? No.

I am guilty of breeding very high inbreeding percentages, and I think the highest percentage I have breed is 31.86% on this girl:

She and her mate are the result of a breeding project I started when I was fairly new to sylestia and didn't have much gold. I had 3 regular essences and needed to breed all the way to 6vis, so there was no way around it. I just didn't have the gold to buy more essence :P

Edit: I've actually just discovered that I have a max stat pet I've bought with over 50%

It is were pets that have common ancestors are bred together. You can tell how inbred a pet is by viewing their lineage page.
