I don't have a lot of cash, and traps are far too expensive given their failure rate. I need some more pets so I can do more adventuring and more missions to rake in cash. I heard it's better to buy pets than to try to get them with traps. Right now I can't do the final boss of the 1st dungeon and I need some way of getting better equipment, which may be possible with missions if I can get more pets to do those with.

I'd recommend the Advanced Search. Hit "Find Pets", input your desired values, make sure the For Sale switch is turned to Yes and the Order By switch is set to Sale Price, and hit the Search button. If you're looking for higher-statted pets (which I recommend), hit the Statistics button after hitting Search.
