Alex turned to you clearly glad to be off of the previous subject.
"I can help you with magic. Magic is a big deal in my family. Besides you might need it considering where were going." Alex said.
"That's a great idea!" Effie suddenly cried out causing the two if you to jump. "It will help you get to know each other better and like Alex said you might need it." just as before Effie had a wide smile on her face.

That only mad her smile wider "you both have a chance. You'll understand later!" she shouted happily.
A few minutes later a man in his 20's walked in the room.
"Oh, Smith your finally here." Effie said still smiling "What took you?"
"Hello Effie have you finished harrassing these poor children yet?" he said rubbing his eye.
"We're you sleeping this whole time?!" Effie said smiling ever wider.
"Umm... no? So kids must be the new tributes I'm Smith." he said a grim smile on his face "I'm sorry about Effie.she usually doesn't smile this much. You'll understand when we get to the capital."he said.

"They have a plan this year thats making her smile so much." he said rubbing his eye again "I mean, she does smile a lot usually but not this much."
"I do not smile to much!" she cried "Oh right, serenity, Alex, this is Smith he will be training you. He will teach you some advanced magic. They aren't strong enough to kill someone only if their used several times in a row." she said.
"Effie!!!" Smith cried.
"Oops I probably shouldn't have mentioned that last part. Sorry." she said winking at you and Alex.
