For money to feed your pets, an easy way is to send them on missions, they are a fast way to get gold. (Heres a guide I find helpful) https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=12841
Also, your starter pets are always adolescents, which means they need time to mature into an adult.

How much help do you need? : Iunno. Maybe like... a 4 at most? The site is nice, yes, but is a bit overwhelming. I was referred to some guides and I know they will be beneficial. I am just afraid there will be too much more and I'll get lost ^-^ It's inevitable.
Other: My current question is: Do pets need to be the same species to breed? Also, how do the bloodlines work?

Yes pets do need to be the same species to breed. So you can breed for instance a male Ny'Vene and a female Ny'Vene but you cannot breed a Male Morkko with a female Ny'vene.
As to bloodlines, I'm assuming lineage not genetics, It tracks close relatives of any given pet, this helps so you don't accidentally breed a brother and sister together, but you can breed an offspring back to a grandparent.

Other: Although I feel fairly comfortable with battling, I need a lot of help with breeding my own awesome-looking sabre-toothed kitties with max stats starting with the two vulnyxes I have on my current main team, and any other vulnyx in my stables. I'm looking for someone who can help tell me what I need to do to eventually get max-stat pets like the ones Xavion, GoldGryphon and someone else who's name I can't remember has. Unfortunately as a free-to-pay player I don't have many resources, so it'll take quite a while before I can get what I'd need. I'm from the UK in case that's important.
