Hello,

While I was in the wild roaming around I had stumbled upon an egg laying on the ground. I pick this egg up and find out its an egg for an Arctic Storm Griffi. I was just wondering if the Genetic Mutator would work on this pet since I found the egg in the wild. Or does it only work on the pets that you actually use a trap to catch.

Well, if the genetic info says it is a tamed pet, then yes, you can use a mutator on it. :D

Yes, you will be able to use a mutator on it. Mutators can be use on themed pets that are not marked as exclusive and tamed pets regardless of whether you trap them or find an egg. In this case you found a themed pet so once it becomes an adolescent, you'll be able to mut it.
