Welcome, Synchronicity. If you find the Festival* confusing, just ask somebody who has been here for awhile to explain. This is one of the friendliest pet games around.
With regard to any Festival, here are ways to prepare.
(1) Advance in the adventures that Jinxie guides you through until you are able to have 3 pets in your Adventuring Party at the same time.
(2) Work 3 pets up to at least Level 10 and give them the best Equipment you have.
(3) Try to acquire as many Traps as you can, of the highest quality you can. A new player is just as likely as anybody else to encounter a valuable pet during a Festival; it's random.
