I was thinking of doing a Sylestia based D&D game online here and started jotting down stats and abilities and realized I'd better get an interest check before I get much farther.

The overall idea would be that it is a role-playing game where the outcome of actions is determined by probability (through a dice roll). I have two sites in mind as possibilities.

Set-Up
Your character would be a D&D traditional character (5th edition has a free basic handbook), but would automatically get the sylesti of your choice as a companion. I'm thinking you have to pick from the basic breeds for your first and at a higher level you can upgrade.

Your sylesti would start out as a baby and as it grew it would gain abilities and at level 5 it would become an adult and get to benefit from it's mutations. To avoid making them over powered they will have to learn how to benefit from their mutations completely. So winged Sylesti cannot fly for more then 10 feet initially, horns do less damage, etc. By level 10 they would have complete control.

What's needed?
1. Google Doc with player's handbook styled rules for the Sylesti
2. Some maps drawn up for the various areas of Sylestia that are already released.

Feel free to help with brainstorming on this document.

2. The two sites I'm looking at (both free) are roll20 (EPIC, but requires a lot of work on the DM's side) or Invisible Castle if it's board based to keep track of the dice rolls. Which would you prefer?

I would be interested. I have always wished that Sylesties' Visible traits affected their adventuring abilities in some way.

Epicness! That's definitely enough people to get started.

I was thinking that after the basic rules were decided it could be an open rulebook for anyone in sylestia.

I'll set up the Google Doc soon with a basic layout and we can brainstorm what each mut/gene adds to the creature.

In general would you guys rather have it as a "reply when you have time" or as a live chat type situation? It doesn't affect the rules per-say, but I was curious.

Edit: Also I wanted to put the link if anyone isn't familiar with 5th Edition D&D:
https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules

This isn't a complete rulebook, but it is the basics to get started. I have all of the books because I frequently DM in real life.

Hey, so, I never played D&D, but I would like to not only help you figure out what the genes and mutaions do, but maybe join you? You'll have to guide me through every thing, but I would like to join and help out!

It would probably be easiest for me with "reply when you've got the time" option, but I can try to make it work depending on how often it is.

I would have trouble with the Live Chat idea, even though it would be much better for actual playing, because of work, plus my tabletop gaming. However, if you could live with me sometimes showing up and sometimes not, I'd vote for Live Chat.

Or maybe alternate. On an actual adventure, use Chat; but when the party is journeying from one location to the next, use "reply when you can."
