I have limited edition birthday cake flavored pop tarts to celebrate the 50th year of pop tarts! They were created in 1964! Annnd in 1994 they got their own breakfast cereal! *gives pop tarts* I love these.

I totally understand how a chat can be sometimes "annoying" or "invasive". Often, I tell myself if I don't like the conversation, don't join in.
I sometimes don't really like the wanton "glomps" or "hugs" only because... Well. I grew out of that phase (I remember that sorta thing was pretty popular when I was playing another game when I was 12). I understand now that it's internet vernacular for some players to greet one another. And for that reason, I tolerate it, or learn to appreciate it. (so it's not like I'm HISS DON'T HUG ME, but... I don't really prefer to speak like that aha)
This option to toggle the chat on and off helps people who don't really like looking at such stuff. It also helps in the case that the chat gets tense (for those in region chat that have seen some firey stuff, you know what I mean), so people DO have the choice to exit out of chat while enjoying the exploration game.
I often lurk and keep one eye on chat. But I'm just happy that there are options. c:
