Let's face it, we all have pets that we just don't like. Be it Draeyl, Morrko, Faelora, and so on, we simply DON'T like them. So that moment when a battle ends and the game so excitedly announces that you've received an essence after slaying a breed that you don't like, or when you're in the hatcheries nurturing someone's pet and you receive an essence from the egg of a pet you don't like, you simply DON'T want it. It's a disappointment, an annoyance, an item you just don't want to have blocking up inventory space. So into the broker it goes for the lowest price just to be rid of it! And then someone else does the same thing, and another person, and another, and another. And what happens to the value? It PLUMMETS!
I've seen regular essences go for as low as 200 gold. Two hundred gold, just to clarify that that absurd number isn't a typo!
So here's a simple solution to FIX that problem! I suggest implementing Essence FRAGMENTS to completely replace the essences obtained outside of the diamond shop in game. Fragments are simply that, fragments. Not a fragment of Sylvorpa, not a fragment of Draeyl, not a fragment of Lunemara, just a simple fragment of an essence.
What do you do with fragments? To start, we'll need a vender!
*the flame is the closest thing I could find that was essence-y*
Now to describe her purpose. This vender will take your Essence Fragments, and turn them into REAL essences! But it'll take more than just one fragment per essence, and the rate increases greatly for quality, and for the rarity of the pet!
[Tier One: commonly found pets available in the first region]
PETS: Qitari Zolnixi Vulnyx Aurleon Draeyl Sylvorpa Bulbori
Regular Essence: 10 fragments
Enhanced Essence: 100 fragments
Mystical Essence: 200 fragments
[Tier Two: commonly found pets available in the second and third regions]
PETS: Morrko Faelora Lupora Nytekrie Lunemara Kelpari
Regular Essence: 25 fragments
Enhanced Essence: 250 fragments
Mystical Essence: 500 fragments
The rarity of one fragment will equal the same as the rarity of an essence now by slaying sylesties and nurtuting eggs and hatchlings, which will LOWER the amount of essences available in game, and thus raise the value of generated pets. It will also help to balance out the drastic difference in diamond shop essences, and trade broker essences. *wink-wink, Krin and Fai!*
Additionally, since these fragments let you CHOOSE the essence that you eventually obtain, more people are likely to actually HOLD ON to the fragments, unlike the countless unwanted essences that have been piling up in the broker.
Comments anyone? :D
Added note: Wouldn't THIS have been great during the Winter Festival!? Rather than the Wheel's random essence, five fragments for regular, 20 fragments in place of the enhanced! *then I wouldn't have gotten all those draeyl and qitari essences that I put in the broker >_>;*

As stated on skype, perhaps with the implementation of the fragments, there could be a slight drop rate increase from battling sylestis for the fragment drop rate. Some people have horrid luck at getting any essences from battling them - like 1 out of 500 killed. So if you need 10 fragments for 1 essence of what you want, that'd take well over 5000 kills in order to get 10 fragments with the calculation of 1 out of 500, it's a ridiculous amount of kills you'd need to get that amount of fragments for 1 essence. So if this were to be implemented, an increase of the drop rate of even 1% would be much better to compensate for the amount of fragments needed for 1 essence.

That'd be awesome...if I could get more essences since my battles don't really give me any. But I like that idea a lot!

I like this idea... it would make more sense than collecting essences you really have no use for, and are difficult to sell.

I'm... interested... :o
I would totally take the time to cumulate Fragments for Essences I strongly needs, for Projects~ :3
But not sure if Mythical SHOULD be added thou... o.o"
That's my two cents~ :3

I think there's an idea for making it where regular essences can be fused into enhanced essences when crafting comes out. That should raise the value of the regular essences and make them easier to sell off.
I have to say though that I really like your shopkeeper design. I feel like if your idea isn't implemented she'd be nice to have somewhere on the site.

Haha, I wasn't expecting so many comments so soon! I guess I'm just an essence magnet. *shrugs* Within an hour of straight squishing I usually get three-four essences, sometimes even five an hour and even an enhanced every few hours. But I do squish things rather quickly and if I'm in a squishing mood I don't stop for much. XD
I do think that the starting prices for my suggestion ~may~ have been a tad high now that I've found out that not everyone collects unwanted essences by the handful like I do. I'd expect that if such a setup was implemented, it'd probably take a few months of tweaking and fine-tuning to establish a fair drop rate of fragments and a fair pricing of essences. The main idea is to make it a little bit harder to get essences to boost their value away from those insanely low prices, while in return to the players giving us the ability to choose our essence rather than being handed one at random.
Personally I tend to attract Draeyl, and thus Draeyl essences. At first I didn't mind them, but after the Fall Festival where I was SWARMED by PINK (eternally my least favorite color) Draeyl? I can't stand them little buggers! I would have gladly traded TEN of my draeyl essences for just about any other essence. Which is essentially where the number ten came from for the first tier of pets. And I'd happily trade away 50 Draeyl essences for a rare/fabled essence if I had the chance.
Another note is that I wouldn't want it to be too easy for high level players to go into the newbie zone and simply one-shot everything to farm essence fragments. And I ain't sayin' that as if I wouldn't be grinding lowbie sylesties for the fragments - I'd probably be there every day if I got the chance! "Squish, squish, squish, gimme a fragment! Squish..." As much as I would absolutely LOVE an easy way to farm Griffi essences for my projects, it'd probably run a chance of diminishing the value of said essences, and thus diminish the value of the pet.
I suppose that issue could possibly be solved if there were different levels of fragments to go with the different tiers for pets. "Cracked Fragment" for the first tier essences, "Glowing Fragment" for the second tier, "Humming Fragment" for the top tier... And I guess that the level of essence (regular, enhanced, mystical) could be determined by how many Fragments you throw into it, with a risk of getting no essence for super low amounts of Fragments and a mixed chance between regular to enhanced, and enhanced to mystical depending on the amount as well.
I'm ecstatic to see that other people like this idea too, though! It still needs tons of tweaking of course, but who knows? With enough support maybe Krin and Fai will consider it :D
And thanks Savynn complimenting the shopkeeper! <3 I wanted to keep her colors close to the ones around the different essences so she could match her intended purpose. XD

Once we have crafting in the game, there will be lots of ways to use essences besides just for generating a pet. :)

This proposed system is going to absolutely nuke the number of generated pets worse than nagasaki. 1/10th of the drops just to get a regular essense. Annoyingly it moved the page so I can't check the other numbers, but I'm going to put in 1/200th and call it an enhanced, because I remember that number. No, I take that back. Nuke isn't the word - wholly obliterate. Drop rates for these essense fragments are going to need to be tweaked upwards drastically. How drastic? I don't know. I would advent a BARE MINIMUM of 500% to start, that still halves the average essences gained (and that's just the basic common essences >.>). I don't actually know the old drop rates for enhanced essences or heavens forbid mythical, so I can't give you a more accurate number (drop 1000 essence shards for a mythical essence? Who was smoking what to think that was a good idea? There's rare, and there's never going to be seen in the lifetime of this game)
I really don't know what half baked idea this is, but it needs to go back into the oven for another 15 minutes on 375. You can't just cut the supply of such a core feature of the game to anywhere from 10% to 0.05%. That's going to completely balls up the balance, market prices and entire economy for that matter. Price of diamonds is going to inflate to ludicrous levels within the month, I guarantee it - just as an example...
I like the concept of the shards being able to be traded for any particular essence, don't get me wrong, but the maintaining of the drop rates has got to be thought through more.

Agreeing with Tikoxi.
"I like the concept of the shards being able to be traded for any particular essence, don't get me wrong, but the maintaining of the drop rates has got to be thought through more."
Just buy the entire stash of essences in broker if you wanna control it or something. xD
I don't mind general shards, I really don't. But:
1. I don't like assuming tiers of pets. They all seem equal to me. Yeah, sure, divide them up by how they spawn based on regions, but...some of it can be unrealistic because:
2. GOODNESS if you mimic the drop rates of essences (or frags as you call it) already, just like Tikoxi said, it'll demolish the market for essences. Like. Make them extremely UBER rare to come by unless you hoarded it from the start. You'll completely SLANT the essences (over a few months of course, this isn't gonna take place in a day) towards diamond-only buyers (200 diamonds is more efficient than hours of grinding for an essence to drop from nurturing or battling. That or hoarding.)
I can only see this being feasible if you make frags x100 to x500 more common to drop than essences do already. o,o Or also buyable (cheaply) with scales.
I'd also like enhanced/mystical generated pets to be converted into frags, some system like that. Since we're so worried about essence-generated economy, and I've seen essence-generated pets be sold super cheap. :c (Yes I hoard them, but I love some, and others are just...kinda unloved as they are.)
Anyways, essences aren't unloved. It's just that some like more than others. It's the same with tons of other games where people accumulate one of something, don't want it, throw it into a seller, and it deflates.
I've been biding my time and collecting essences for the crafting system, same with philters. And if such a feature doesn't come that caters to them, then thank goodness for me, I'm a hoarder.
But this sounds like a drastic change just so people can get the things they want easier. This sounds like "oh MAN, I wish I didn't get a nytekrie essence, I feel like I get a thousand of these and I want to convert them into a nephini essence".
Oh, how about unwanted pets? Let's crush THOSE into frags too, no? o,o Get rid of em while we're at it.
That's how this post felt like. It felt like an attack on things unwanted in the favor of a way to save for things wanted.
