He taps his nose knowingly, a little grin on his face. Now he's over the fright he seems to be a little braver.
"Thank you ever so much for putting up this stand. The innkeeper only supplied it, not even bothering to put it up for me!" he huffs, but smiles anyway. "If you stick around, I could show you. It's rather clever actually. I used to use the skill for hurting others, but I figured that wasn't a nice thing to do so I've changed now," he nods enthusiastically. "I'm making things better now! But first I need to get some money. So I perform, and I get money. I can share some with you for helping me if you like."
I nod once, "Sure do you mind if I bring a another guest? She's my partner."
As you speed up to a trot, you're really noticing how few guards are around the seemingly wealthy-built looking buildings here.
It all makes sense in a few seconds when you see flickering firelight ahead of you and rowdy, bawling singing voices round a bend in the road. It's cloudy and dull, so in the shadows - that you can see even though it's daytime - that are cast across the path, there are dancing figures and the rough shapes of mugs in hands.
Seems like this is the distraction the female was talking about. Maybe a quick investigation first would be a good idea.
Delirious decides that a quick peek won't hurt her mission, she could always try to lie her way out of any bad situations if they are to occur.

He looks up at you, a little bit of interest in his eyes. He scribbles down your words while saying, "I have family down there, making a killing forging all sorts of things that passing adventurer's crave." He chews on the pen thoughtfully. "Haven't heard from them in a while. No matter - welcome to the mines, try not to die, and I hope you become an apprentice as soon as possible."
He gives you a genuine smile before filing your form away and registering the next Dwarf.
Ahead of you is a building with a sign saying 'Equipment Room'. It is right at the entrance to the mines - presumably that's where you have to head first.
On either sides of it there is scaffolding on the walls, with lots of doors carved into Vanguard's walls. Those must be the rooms the registrar was talking about. Some of them have little engravings on them - those must be occupied ones.
You can also see a long table in the open space where Dwarves are cleaning up what looks like the leftovers of a large meal. You must have just missed breakfast - straight to work it is then.

He nods. "Starving, actually, yes."
He's curled around the egg just now, keeping it warm. You can hear his stomach rumble in the small space as he speaks. He blinks, amused.

(You could name him Knight, unless the name would make you cringe every time it was mentioned. Or Balthur could name him ~ something like Valiant, Fierceheart, Noble, Palladin, Champion... you like the sound of any of them?
The Wyvern could also remain nameless if you aren't interested in befriending him any further.)

"The bigger the audience, the better!" he says cheerfully. "I'll just make a start now though."
He clears his throat, calling out to the people milling around nearby. "Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Numbat, and today I shall be performing for you. Gather round and witness the greatest knife thrower around!"
A knife thrower. You've heard of that before - creatures of great skill who can toss around knives without hurting anyone - performing quite elaborate tricks, full of finesse.

You peer round the corner to see Centaurs that are Firedancing. A cultural dance that involves jumping over a fire and generally having fun. Most are drinking ale from a large keg that has been rolled over to them.
It's obvious that these cheap guards should be looking after their warehouses, but a simple offer of beer has them away from their posts in a heartbeat.
You see two Centaurs who aren't joining in on the fun - instead holding full mugs of ale and keeping a sharp eye on the partying guards. One of the watching males notices you - a grey haired Centaur with curling ram horns and bright silvery-blue eyes. He nods to you once before going back to making sure the guards are properly distracted.
Time to make your move - from here, you can see the warehouse the female was talking about. It is across the road though - so you're going to have to sneak across without being noticed.

(Knight it is - good name c:)
"Knight? Sounds good, though I still think Grumpy suited him personally," he chuckles.
Knight makes a noise you could swear sounded grateful.
A while later, Balthur hits the wood section between him and you. "Out you get - we're here, at the docks" he says.
