I was sleeping, or at lest trying to, its hard when you dont know if you are going to die over night or not.

She turns as she hears Lucy. "Did that snack happen to require you to leave your house? Why, the only people who did that and lived tonight as far as I know, are murderers! Did you see them?" She gasps as she realizes, "Are you one?? Was that snack a Watermelon???"

Purfolium stepped forwards, "To be fair," she said, "Watermelon isn't a recommended food for cockatiels. They mostly eat seeds with some other things on the side like carrots, broccoli or corn."

Esmeray ignores the others, standing by herself quietly with her wings tucked neatly behind her. But she eventually speaks up, aware that she has nothing to gain from remaining silent, rather the opposite.

"I was on edge after learning of the murders in this town, so I was unable to fall asleep. I was up all night painting a tabby cat with antennae eating an orange peel, though I think I fell asleep an hour or so before we were called here. Woke up with dried paint in my feathers and a paintbrush stuck in my tail." She shakes her head, disgusted.

"Oh, and Jackie," she adds after some thought, eyes narrowed, "if you'd gone to sleep at ten, why do you look so tired now? And this is a strange town; were you not at all worried that something - or someone - would, say, come and stab you overnight?"
