(Dang, I could never get my parakeets to obey that command)
He obediently hops onto your hand. On the doorstep is a neat pile of everything you ordered, including seeds. Seeing this, Chisei immediately gets off and starts pecking at the top, trying to get it open.

Cody chuckled. "Yeah, I don't blame you." He spoke as he picked up the stack of groceries, keeping an eye on Chisei to make sure he didn't slide off (Not that he was worried, seeing as most parrots are excellent climbers). "I'll open that up for you in just a sec."
You skim the article, which is, as expected, more stuff about how the disease is spreading and scientists are working on a cure from the (ugh) dead bodies of the victims. Nothing new. Once you're done, it appears to roll up and disappear in a flash of blue light.
What do you do?
"Well then, now that I know that" he said with a slight hiss,"Might as well get to work" he pulled back up the code from earlier."now what was this for again?" he asked himself tapping his foot gently. He had his head tilted at this very gently angel, something he just did from time to time

(Had - Feathery and Winter's Crystal. I'd just nudge them with my finger and tell them to step up, and they freaked out and tried to hide behind their millet or something.)
As you pick them up, a piece of paper slides out and flutters to the ground. If it's the receipt, that's odd - it's always electronic.
Chisei has managed to peck a hole in the bag and is happily eating the cracking the seeds, leaving a mess behind.
(I've been told parrots can animal bones with their beaks.)

(Yeah, the giant macaws can. I have a mini macaw though, so it usually just hurts a lot, heh. That said, he can chew through rope and wood given enough time.)

Cody frowned in puzzlement. Huh... This ain't the dark ages. He thought as he set the groceries down on the kitchen table. Chisei would probably just stay put while eating, so he went back out to retrieve the slip of paper.

(I accidentally missed a word in the last post xD)
You haven't held a piece of paper in so long, you almost drop it. It takes more focus to read the shaky, uneven letters, but ignoring the loud crunching of seeds behind you, you finally make out:

Cody narrowed his eyes at the page. It looked to him like a code of some kind.... He idly wondered if he could try and crack it--
His stomach chose that moment to remind him that he hadn't eaten yet. He folded the paper and placed it in his pocket for the time being. But first, food. Preferbly before Chisei decides to eat all that birdseed.
(Edit: Ceasar Shift Cipher? Child's play. *Pulls out one of those paper decoders with the two wheels*)

(Yes xD, it should be more complicated, but I suck at cryptography, index thingy is 9 I believe)
Chisei is hopping around a huge pile of spilled birdseed on the ground, maybe he's actually full for once. He looks satisfied.
You take a bite of a... uh... bagel while studying the code.

Cody mulled over it for a while. The code itself seemed pretty simplistic. He found his eyes drifting back to the "J" near the bottom. "....I need to take notes or something." He thought aloud. He glanced down at Chisei and the heap of seed husks. ...And the roomba. With that, he picked up the parrot to put him away for now.
