After a few minutes, it turns around and starts nosing at something in the brush, whimpering.

"So. . ." Hitori lifts the pot lid to check on the contents, then puts it back. "Exactly how much do you know about this place?"

She got to her feet and picked up the tiny fox gently before starting to examine the bush from afair keeping the fox in her hands so it doesn't get hurt

The pup yelps and tries to wriggle out of your hands, but it's not strong enough.

As you look into the brush, you realize there is another fox in there - an adult. Its pelt is dirty and ruffled.

"Just about nothing," Rin says frankly, shrugging.

"Well, better than knowing a lot, I. . .suppose," Hitori mutters. "Sometimes, knowledge is a curse."

Suddenly, a large outbreak of noise bursts outside. He jumps to his feet, and quickly pulls the ragged curtains over the small window.

The only light in the room is from the fire now.

"Don't. . .mind that. I'm sure it's just two animals. . .fighting."

He has the face of a liar, but also looks incredibly frightened.

"Animals...?" Rin echoes. A likely story when the forest was devoid of any creatures whatsoever. He himself said 'nothing lives around here'. What in the world is going on? He stands and shoulders his spellbook. "Well, it was nice knowing you, Mr. Hitori, but, ah, I had better be going now."

She holds the baby fox in one hand before looking inside the bush

"Yeah, animals. There's probably gonna be something dead out there within five minutes," Hitori says with a straight face.

He shivers but tries to hide it by checking the pot.
