Freckles was born to two of the most beautiful Puffadore's around. Shimmer, a prize winning beauty queen and Gallant, a strong and powerful warrior complete with looks. Everyone was surprised by the homely looking pup that came from the two beautiful Sylesti. Shimmer and Gallant, however, didn't care what anyone else thought. They loved their little Freckle no matter how she looked and both believed she was beautiful even if no one else could see it.



Freckle grew up with very few friends, often hearing whispered comments along the lines of 'how could Shimmer and Gallant produce such an ugly looking offspring?'. She became very quiet and withdrawn and shy because of such things and her parents worried.



Shimmer was determined to help her daughter see just how beautiful she was and decided to enter her in a beauty contest against the poor little Freckles' wishes. Freckles was nervous and despite the pretty little jewels and beads her mother covered her in, she still felt so very self-conscious. Shimmer reminded her daughter that she was just as beautiful as any other Sylesti and all she needed to do was believe it, hold her head up high, and show them confidence and her beautiful smile.

She did as her mother coached and stepped onto the stage, plastering on the brightest smile she could. It was clear the smile was fake though, poor little Freckles being very uncomfortable and frightened and just wanting to get this over with. This really wasn't her thing.

It was only seconds into her coming on stage when she began to hear the snickers. She frowned at this point, her ears drooping and her tail curling under her before she whimpered and rushed off stage and back towards her mother. Shimmer felt horrible, feeling like it was her fault for pushing Freckles into something she didn't want to do.

It wasn't long before they returned home, both disheartened.



Gallant hated to see both Freckles and Shimmer so upset. He wanted to help as well so he thought, perhaps, he could help Freckles gain some confidence by bringing her to do some training at the local training grounds the next day.

Freckles, of course, had never really shown any talent for any form of fighting. She wasn't very graceful or agile, wasn't extremely fast or strong and she wasn't that good with magic. Gallant, however, was still sure that he could help Freckles gain some confidence by teaching her how to defend herself.

Freckles frowned as her father began to go through some basic battle movements with her. She really didn't want to be there. She wasn't really interested in fighting anyone. She didn't like confrontation. She'd rather just hide in her room and read.

As her father tried to teacher her to do some more complicated moves that involved a little bit more balance, Freckles started to get wary. She was tired. Upon an attempt to pounce on a training dummy, she missed and smacked right into it, head first, before plopping back down to the ground on her behind. She groaned softly and whimpered, looking to her father with drooped ears before she got up and turned, rushing off back towards home.

Freckles refused to come out of her room for a few days after that before her parents decided to try something new. They invited a couple of Puffadore pups over, letting their parents take a break and insisting that Freckles help babysit the two little ones. Freckles finally came out of her room and blinked at the sight of the two almost identical Sylesti. Twin Puffadore pups with mixed up muddy coloring and big bright smiles on their little faces.

The boy, Kino, wore a mask of bones and a bone collar around his neck, telling her they were his warrior armor and the girl, Kina, had cute little wings and a collar made of candy that looked like it had gotten rather dirty over time. Neither one seemed to care about how they looked and were infatuated with the older pup almost instantly. They wanted to play with her and wanted her to teach them stuff and read to them.

Freckles was overjoyed to have the company and the fact that they didn't seem to care what she looked like made her feel so much better. She found she didn't much care what they looked like either, though she did insist on them cleaning up when they got sticky and dirty. She helped teach them how to color and read and write as well as told them stories off the top of her head with their help.

Freckles found she really enjoyed playing with the children and was soon looking after them frequently. She soon had other parents of young Sylesti calling to ask her to babysit and as she grew into an adult she realized that she did have a talent. She might not be the most beautiful or the most brave or the most graceful or smart but she was good with children and she enjoyed being with them.

Freckles soon became a school teacher, passing on her knowledge to the young Sylesti and instilling in them the value of looking beyond what we see into what's inside another Sylesti. Seeing Freckles with the children made those who'd taunted her before realize they'd made a mistake, and before long, Freckles found that people were being friendly to her and kind and she was making friends with, not only her children's parents, but other Sylesti in the area.

She found her confidence when she found her talent and with that confidence she found the courage to be herself which helped others to see past her looks.

Freckles was happy. She'd found her place... and when she truly realized she was where she wanted to be, she woke up to find a lovely pair of wings upon her back. Not as beautiful as her mothers or as fast as her fathers but perfect in their own little way.

This is Alice Mysel.


Alice was a regular girl. Regular clothes, regular intellect, regular friends, regular diet, regular life. Like most she learned how to be a housewife Zolnixi and was of the same religions and beliefs of everyone else. Of course, she was also a skilled liar. She believed Luporas were the dominating species, not her own. She believed wives should be able to do whatever, not just cook, clean, and take care of the chidren. She believed women should be able to be warriors. And most of all, she believed it shouldn't be forbidden to crossbreed. She hadn't said she didn't want to breed with a Zolnixi, she just meant if she fell in love with one of another species, she should be able to start her own species. Like, for instance, Lonixi, Lupora and Zolnixi, or Zelpari, Zolnixi and Kelpari. Her mother and father had called her a discrace to their family and were embarassed to have them. They kicked her out, her little sister protesting but failing. She started her journey to a new life. A new goal.
