She thought for a minute 'we might need more berries and rabbits' she said to herself looking around
You still have a small amount of berries - but those won't fill tummies very much. You don't really know how much prey there is around here, but if the cougar was able to find something, there must be more somewhere. . .
The pup lies down, full and content.

The cougar huffs, taking a small bite of the near-finished rabbit. The pup curls around and promptly falls asleep.
The best places you can think of to find food are by bushes, trees, and perhaps under rocks. You haven't seen much living above the ground, so everything must be in burrows.

Both animals have fallen asleep - the pup is a small bundle of fur, and the cougar is curled around it.
The fire is still going, but it's mostly hot coals now.

Rin thinks a little. "Neither," He decides. "They would merge into something different, something worse, but still separate. Like if you shook up a glass of oil and water."

"No, they wou -" He stops halfway through. "Oh, wow. You're right. That's a first, usually people insisted loneliness would win."
Hitari shrugs. "Well, I'm sure you know where I'm going with this. Loneliness gets defensive when something hurts one of its rare companions - then loneliness hurts to think about it, then pain is welcomed in. An old friend here to ease the burden, if you will."
He looks at the owl. "We wouldn't be here if that thing had just stayed quiet, you know."

"Misery loves company," Rin agrees. "And loneliness loves to wallow in pain." He hears Hitari's statement about the owl. "What do you mean?"

She set them down and burried the bones so the new prey that comes doesn't see them
