Hmm, I guess they could, but they probably wouldn't, depending on their personality I guess

Hm maybe the classic damsel in distress, I dunno, I just hate reading about a normally/supposed to be powerful character just sitting there like "Guess I gotta wait for someone to come save me :(" Then they stare out the window and feel out-of-character helpless, when they could be, YA KNOW, ACTUALLY TRYING TO ESCAPE?
And it's not necessarily that they lose all their character, it's just that they sorta, like, suddenly revert to being all thoughtful and stuff. Like they'll be like, "I pace nervously inside the cell. The door's locked, I'm sure of it. I wonder if Bob's going to be able to pick the lock if he comes to save me. I know it's a wooden door, but it's probably really thick. I better be obedient, because I want to be in perfect shape if I get rescued."

The only acceptable ones for me personally are if they know without a doubt that they're guaranteed to be rescued very soon so they're not really taking it seriously (or, obviously, if they're doing it on purpose). If it somehow goes wrong, they're going to attempt to break out themselves instead of just sitting there uselessly. Just once I'd love to see someone try to rescue someone only to realized they've already escaped.

Or when they find such an obvious clue but absolutely no one points it out. Fortunately, I've seen a lot of people not doing this recently.
Like, say, the villain can, I dunno, shape-shift into a snake or something, and then someone finds a scale on the floor. And then they're like "Hmm, must be from the fish we caught earlier" or something stupid. It makes me want to cry.

ALSO YES OMG I HATE PROPHECY THINGS
Cause like a. usually the 'prophesied one' is a totally normal person and they're like "uwu I'm a special snowflake" for literally no good reason other than pRoPhEcIeS and b. that just seems like a lot of pressure for them. I'd rather they be dragged into something because, say, their parents had something to do with it or they just happened to be in the right place at the right time, not some weird foretold destiny that says they're going to be some amazing powerful person especially if they're currently not.

As for what I use a lot... ah, I'm not sure. Lemme think about it?

I'm heavily reminded of Goosebumps. I swear, I could guess all the plot twists... except for one.

That one book where the magician is a wooden dummy and he turns the main into a rabbit. Couldn't guess that one lol.

Ugh. The chosen one is bad, as well as Dark and Troubled Past. I've never heard of the Ordinary High School Student one before.

Now, on the subject of orphans in the story, do you hate all orphan protagonists or only when it plays a significant part in the story (like, would you hate a character for being an orphan but it happened a while ago and they were taken care of and they're now an adult and them being an orphan has no effect whatsoever on the story, it's just their past or would you just hate characters that get revenge on the parent killers?) It's probably a yes, but double checking.

I think Black and White Morality leads to For the Evilz, so yeah, I hate that too. It just makes the characters boring. Have an excuse for why Villain kidnapped the protagonist, please, you know?

I play with a lot of characters with grey moralities, especially villainous ones. I always find it fun to write a sympathetic villain or a darker hero that might even be kind of a jerk. It adds a lot of dimensions to writing and can turn the story in some pretty crazy ways.

I mostly hate orphan characters when it's like "my parents are dead they were murdered when ____"
Which is incredibly common, especially in anime. I don't mind if a character has parental losses, especially if they are far older and recalling an event or their parents passed of natural cases.. But all too often the parental loss thing is tied with the overly tragic backstory thing.

The ordinary high school student one is a HUGE anime or superhero trope. It's not bad in itself so much as extremely predictable because it is so commonly done. You have teenagers that gain magic powers in some way or have been completely different all their lives in some level of prophecy or conspiracy outside their knowledge (ie. Superman. He's literally an alien and his parents raised him as human)

Ah. I see now. So, if it's an older person just recalling an event, it's not that bad. Gotcha.

Oh liegeon. Not the second one!

I don't deal with romance. If I do, it's by accident (Coffeehouse angel I read because it sounded interesting. It was a romance.) But I know those tropes. Ugh!

You would not fall in love with someone you ran into. You would not fall in love with a person in the crowd. So why would characters do that?

Ugh.

Yeah, I feel you.

Haha
Overused tropes
Haha nerd girl x jock guy meet n he likes her n she likes him but oh no she thinks he hates her aaaaaaaaaahhh stuff happens but he wins over his lady love by leaving his jock friends
the end
moral: your friends are bad if your crush doesn't like them

Tropes I use a lot? ...hmmm
people are way too secretive about mundane things and it leads to miscommunication and lack of trust until people finally open up
dunno if that's a trope but it's what I do

Hellooo I have returned from a long break. If we're still on about overused trope I gotta say it's just the strong independent girl who's just not like the other girls yano. Like if it's in fantasy she's some warrior prodigy that craps on the other women and anything feminine a lot. Strong female characters can still be feminine :)
