This needs to be not dead.
Do you think a demi-god/half unicorn person would call themselves a centaur?
Anyhow, weird question that probably has been asked before: What cliche/trope irritates you to see in writing or one you think is way overused, and why? Have you see any examples of said cliche/trope being used in a way you like?
And a second one: Are there any tropes you yourself use a lot in your writing? Which ones?
My answer to the first is "For the Evilz" which is bad characterization for one, as people tend to do things for a goal, like "save the world from bad weather" but take it the wrong way (IE stopping all rain period). For two, it's boring and predictable. If a character is doing something for the evil of it, I can usually predict that they'll take over the world (or try to) next. The only instance I ever like this trope is when it's exaggerated for fun (think "Pinky and the Brain")
One I use the most... hmm... I like giving characters "the unique power" that only they have (although it's a curse for Trevor, obviously) and, if it counts, functional magic. Definitely magic. I love fantasy.
(Edit: It's similar to a question asked earlier, but that one was what your favorite trope is)

hehe I see you.
I use the enemies to lovers/friends/mutual buddies cause it's fun and I like annoying readers. (see: Good Omens)
I strongly dislike prophecy tropes and/or chosen destiny things - unless the story has the main characters fighting said prophecy or going about it in a way that you as the reader can't (or have a hard time) guess(ing). Basically, I dislike plots that start out with a prophecy and follow it to the letter - you know what's coming next, why bother reading?
Also the whole big strong man don't need no friends trope. Makes me sad. :( Big strong man needs friends!

ah yes
let me trap everyone here with a few of my most hated tropes
Oh geez, there are many writing techniques people use that annoy me but this has to be the biggest one.
When people write the story in such a way that the reader knows what is going to happen or what the plot twist will be. I find this happens when you focus on more than 1 character in your story. It makes the main characters seem dumb. I've only seen it happen a few times but it annoys me so much.
